Default replacing steering position sensor

I took my car in for a "service active handling" message today. (It's under warranty.) I had these codes: C1287H Steering sensor rate malfunction, U1160H Loss of comm with LDCM,U1064H Loss of comm with BCM,B0367H Rt. actuator feedback open, and B2723H PASS key detection curcuit. My symptoms were the ABS going off all by itself while I was driving.-That's WITHOUT touching the brakes. The tech said it was the steering position sensor. I'm wondering how long it will take them to do the repair. Not that it's costing me, but any idea of what it and the install would cost?

It's a pretty major repair (ie. Steering column has to come out). I have seen posts on here from $400 to $1200, so I really can't say for sure how much it will cost you.

I would recommend that you double-check the connector that goes into the steering sensor. It's at the base of the steering column where it goes into the firewall (on the cabin side). Mine was giving C1287's and I found that connector wasn't plugged in all the way.

Holy crap. I certainly will look at that in the morning. I must say that I am less than impressed with the build quality so far.

Also, that B0367H is a A/C related code. I would clear it and see if it comes back. The B2723 I believe is a code for some sort of pass key problem. Might have been a dirty resister in your key? Clear it also and see if it comes back.

My C5 had a whole bucket full of problems the first 3 years. It's been relatively problem free since then! Go figure!

I can only hope. This is the first car that I ever bought B/N and I hoped to own it for the rest of my life. I'm 42 and wanted to be that 81 year old with the Vette that he bought new 40 years ago. I don't know that I could afford that right now. It has been fun but also has given me more headaches than any modern car that I've owned. It's by far the most expensive vehicle that I've ever owned and if I had to pay for repairs on top of the purchase price .....well, you can take it from there. Thanks for the advice, I'll post here again tomorrow. Tom

Default steering codes...

Also make sure that you clean and reseat the EBTCM plug. Many people including myself, have found that fixes the problem.

If you have had recent alignment changes, quite often the steering wheel gets misaligned with the sensor. When they measure voltage, this will show up. When you took it in for service, did they use the Tech2 to measure the voltage at the sensor. If they did and there was no voltage either there is no power or there is a short. Check and make sure the connection is tight then check the ground. If there was voltage, then they need to reposition the steering wheel.
