Burst of steam
It was pretty hot today, around 100, and I had something happen that I've never seen before... so I'm looking for some ideas.
I'd been driving the vette around all day, no A/C, just windows down. It's probably been a couple days since I last used the A/C. Anyway, I end up sitting still in traffic on the way home for about 10 minutes and finally decide to turn the A/C on. So I press the button, 2 second pause, and a huge plume of steam (with the smell of coolant) comes forward from the back underside of the vette. Very puzzled, I cut it off and drive home.
No leaks, coolant is fine, temp was about 225 when it happened. Hasn't ever done it before and didn't do it again when I tried a couple of times later today.
Any have an idea as to what happened?

The fact that there are no coolant lines even remotely close to the back is why I was so puzzled in the first place. I'm not worried about it, just really curious about what might have done it.

Steam out of the exhaust????? Smell of coolant.
Possible head gasket, or a cracked water jacket dumping "Coolant" into one combustion chamber.

Because of the wind, I can't be sure it came out of the exhaust. If we ignore that part, is there any way turning on the A/C could have simply caused a dump of condensation onto any of the hot metal below the vette?
