Help me plan my long term mod goals
First, I just want to say this is an amazing site for information. Thanks!
Second, I am wanting to beef up my 1999 A4, but make it daily drivable. My goals are to beat any stock car on the street including the Viper. I am figuring about 400rwhp should get me close. I don't want a blower, so I am thinking about these mods.
Head: AFR?
Cam: TR224?
Header: ???
Exhaust: Borla XR1
Intake: Vararam
Tune: ??? No one local that I know of
I also want to add a 3.43 rear diff and a mild stall converter. I don't want to lose my run-flats, so it seems the concensus is that I go with 3.43s. I have the 3.15s currently. For the TC I suppose I will go for a Vigilante around 2800rpms
I have done quite a bit of reading here, but I am lacking the specifics. Anything I am missing?
Also, what order should I do these in? I probably will do it a piece at a time like the Johnny Cash song.
thanks for a great site,
tony

Sounds like a good plan! First off, I would think opening up the air intake, and exhaust, headers, high-flow cats and catbacks would be a good initial mods. You would see a great improvement, and be setting yourself up for the future mods! Good luck!!! BTW, for serious racing, even street racing, your going to want to beef up your a4 trans at some point. I think with my setup, my transmission has to be the weak link!

Your "top end kit", is that one of the head cam etc kits that they sell on their site, or is it something special you cooked up? Less than seven grand for 500hp doesn't seem like too bad of a deal if it includes the tune and install.

You want to beat a viper??....
Don't do 3.42's, go 3.73's with high stall TC.
Vararam
Heads/Cam, Headers and exhaust
Don't forget wider tires.
I know a guy with a very similiar set up who ran 11.5's in the 1/4 with crap tires and only dynoed at 440RWHP.

If the money is available, go with a better stall convertor and 3.42 gears, and a pro-charger. This will give you a very streetable car that will still maintain the "elegance" of the vette but still retaining the capability of crushing everything on the road. Good luck.

Sounds like a good plan
You want the 3.42s not the 3.43s. The gear ratios you'll find used in our cars are 2.73, 3.15, 3.42, 3.73, 3.90, or 4.10.
I'd start with the Vararam and the Borlas. Then I'd go with the gears, torque converter and headers. If you are planning heads and cam, you might want to go with a higher stall than 2800. A tune would be required at that point so I'd get it done.
Then I'd go with the cam and heads and get it retuned.
You will likely have to go with a built automatic transmission soon afterward, as the stocker won't last long under the power if you beat on it. Rossler, FLP, or Rodney (Crashed 94 on the forum) can sell you one. I believe that Rodney can upgrade your existing transmission.
Oh, and you will have to give up the runflats. Not saying that it hasn't happened, but I have never heard tell of anyone beating a Viper in a Vette rolling on runflats.
You seem to have your mind set on the Vararam and the Borlas
as these two are the only ones in your list which you seem to have no doubt or question marks about. Both are great choices by the way.
