Widest tires on stock C5 wheels
Im sure this has been asked a million times so whats once more...
I have a 2000 C5 with the stock wheels and am upgrading the runcraps in a couple weeks. I want to run a wider tire all the way around but dont want to "bulge" the center by going too big. I also want to compensate with profile so the speedo is close. I was thinking up 2 to 3 sizes all around and cutting the profile down as well.
Let me hear all your success stories. I want to gain some traction at the dragstrip.
thanks in advance..

295 35 18 and 255 40 17 are the way i'd go if i wanted oversized on stock rims. you'll still keep the ~1" difference between front and rear.
stock
275 40 26.7"
245 45 25.6" difference of 1.1"
295 35 26.1
255 40 25.2 difference of .9"
but realize, not all brands have the same tread width...... e.g., a Bridgestone PP or a Kuhmo MX have significantly wider tread than, say, a Goodyear D3.
go to the tire rack and check out the specs
also, the rubber compound is really more important than the size (i see you want bite at the strip)..... i'm sure you'll get plenty of recommendations, but it's really hard to beat a BFG KD (for an all round street/track tire)...of course you could pick up a set of 17" rims for the strip, and mounts up some drag radials (the way to go if you're serious)

biggest tires on stock C5 rims without issues
Any other thoughts on this? My run craps are just about dead and I have put off going for new 18/19 rims and want the most tire width out of the stock rims without wear issues or having the tire balloon out and look bad on the rim.
As some have mentioned 255/40-17 or 265/40-17 on the front with 295/35-18's on the back looks to be the max. Any more people out there been running this combo and had good experience?
255/295 gives a 1.1 inch diff compared the 1 inch diff on the stock has
265/295 narrow this to .8 of an inch
both combinations above reduce the overall diameter of both front and rears by about .4 to .6 of an inch
Thanks for the feedback!!!!!!

Note: I am not recommending 335s on stock C5 wheels, I just use that size to demonstrate the difference in street tire and drag radial dry traction.

A drag radial in a stock C5 size (275/40/18), will give you more dry traction in a straight line than a street tire at 335/25/18, which is about the largest tire you can fit on a C5 without tubbing. I also agree as far as street tires go the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD is your best drag racing tire if you do not want to run drag radials.

Yes, I've heard good reviews on the KD's, yet for non-DRs I've been very content with my Kumho MX Ecsta tires.

They look awesome and have no fitting issues. Look perfect on the rims.

Last chance before moving forward
Glad to hear there are others others out there, but a few more comments would give me the confidence to go forward. Anyone think that a 295 on a 9.5 inch rear rim or a 265 on a 8.5 inch front rim is looking of trouble?
