Scroll down to Setting up tire pressure monitoring; where it says "Toggle function on," toggle it off instead.

Note that only works on 2001 and later cars. The TPM system was not a selectable option prior to 2001.

So, for 97-00 cars, there is no way to turn off the system.

Well...you are only partially incorrect. The original poster has a '98 and it is not possible to turn the Tire Pressure Monitoring system off in those early models. It can only be done on an '01 and newer model using the Tech II tool.

Hmmm, I knew you could use Tech2 to turn on the monitoring system on 2001 and newer Z06s but I didn't know that could be used to disable the monitor on pre-2001 Corvettes.

I was under the impression that 97-00 models could not be turned off.

Chev. changed the control module in 2001 so it could be used on the Z06's. Both models use the same unit, but the Z06 is built without the sensors (hence you need the ability to turn off the sensor function). As an aside, the Z06's can take the sensors and have the function turned on with a TECH II. Prior to 2001, there was no need for the de-activation function, so it was not built-in. 2000 and older CAN NOT have the sensors de-activated by any method. If you pull sensors in the older cars, it throws a code at start-up. Lots of folks just clear the code and move on.

You may want to check this out. I copied it knowing I would need it sooner or later. It is not in the tech section that I could find. I don't know if it works, but it would be worth a look see.

There have been many posts in the past inquiring on how to turn off the low tire monitoring system on the 1997-2000 C5 so that no messages will pop up on the DIC.I stumbled upon this, and it should work for those adding custom wheels with no sensors,or for those that prefer to eliminate the system all together rather than replace faulty low tire sensors...
1st,simply disconnect then reconnect the electrical connector to the low tire/door lock control module located over the left rear wheel well. When doing so,the module looses its logic and no longer looks for a signal from the low tire sensors. You will then have to reprogram your remotes, and of course,do not relearn the tire sensors

I will add this to the Tech Tips

That's great if it's a permanent fix!! However, is this module visible or easy to get to? What pieces of the interior do we have to remove to do this mod?

Like I said. I don't know if this works or not. I have not tried it. You may be able to get intouch with C-5 TECH to see if he has more information. If you decide to try it please let me know how it works out!

If your REALLY want to turn them off, you can actually upgrade to the newer TPMS system. That way you have the option to just turn it off.

This does work I have a 98 and was want to use the newer (cheaper) fobs and tpms sensors. But got a Zo6 RFA module and my tire sensors were all gone. No program no reading no nothing. So had to hunt down a base 200-2004 RFA box and got it all to work.
Even if you bought a base or z06 2000-2004 RFA module you still can't turn it off/or on with tech 2. Unless you did this first before moving to the 98.

I’ve recently brought my ‘99 back to life after it hadn’t been used for circa 9 years. I knew I was running without any TPMS sensors. To my amazement I had no warnings! BUT after some days of running and use “ping” the warning started. I think it’ll relearn.

Not sure if you got an answer to your question. My 2004 CE Vert tire pressure monitoring system quit working as well. I thought it had been turned off accidentally by the mechanic at the dealer somehow. After a lot of research I found that the key fob remote sensor in the fender well behind the driver's seat also is the receiving unit for the tire pressure monitoring system. The TPMS had quit working but the remote key lock still worked. I ordered a new sensor from a company in FL and it fixed the problem. I have my TPMS working again. The place I ordered it said the little flanges or fasteners are flimsy and break off. They sent me one in a box without padding and both flanges were broke off, so we used double-sided tape. It stayed put and works fine. I'm told that earlier C5s like yours use a different part number than mine, alrhough the parts are almost identical. Hope that helps.

Is it a difficult job just to remove the SERVICE LTPMS light in the DIC in a C4 Corvette?

Yes, this has been confirmed multiple times. A used receiver can be pre-programmed to either enable or disable the TPMS in an 97-00 car. But, the TPMS on/off can NOT be programmed in a 97-00 car. So, get a used one from a Z06 and new FOBs to go with it and you won't have TPMS anymore.
