The only hitch was the theft deterant system that shut down the engine after an attempted start. This was caused by the (replacement) PCM's password not being recognized by the BCM (P1631 code). I put it through the password relearn process and everything seems to be fine... I only have a few miles on it, but I took it through the gears and such. No unexpected codes. I did not change the VIN#. Don't have the capability to do that, and I don't see the need anyway... I will now try to put the '97 PCM into my other car ('98) to see if there are any issues with that (both are MN6 cars)... If not, I'll leave them exchanged.
