I agree. I was a pain in the butt$$ when I was waiting for mine to arrive.. and it was not even a week They still were responding to my emails..

Even crazier was one night they released 1.3, and I downloaded right away,,, there were a couple errors, I posted the problems, and not like 5 minutes later they had me a new build of the software with that fix. These guys are on the ball. The more popular they get, the slower things may get responded to, but they have always been responsive on their answers

Keep up the good work!

Howdy!

My HPT VCM Suite shipped on Monday! Ken got right back to me re: ship date, and the forum has some pretty good traffic, so it looks like there's decent "community" type support.

For scanning/logging/tuning in a single package, that requires only a single cable, it seems like a steal. Plus the upload/download performance (at least from what I've read) seems to be substantially quicker than some other solutions - that makes a big difference when you're trying to do some incremental tuning and don't have all day.

I also like the "lock" they put on it vs. other solutions (would prefer none, but this isn't too bad) - basically you buy a package that's configured to a specific model year/car, but that means you could sell it if you wanted to an owner of the same vehicle type/year without having to go through some VIN unlock.

Look forward to getting the car really dialed in, and having something to do followup tuning myself (since I think heads or h/c is in my near future!) Still shopping a wideband solution, since that's the other missing component a full on tuning setup.

Couldn't agree more. Wideband integration is by far the #1 thing HP Tuners needs right now. That's the only reason they don't have my $$$ yet.

Howdy!

Got my HPT software on Thursday, didn't get a chance to mess with it till Friday (also needed an adapter, that I should have ordered in advance).

Anyway - it installed right up on my desktop and notebook - quick and easy, has 3 apps, one for scanning, one for PCM (or VCM in the HPT parlance) flash, and a 3rd for edit.

The interface is serial, so if you have equipment that was made semi-recently (like anytime after the first moon landing ) you probably don't have serial ports, especially notebooks. When you get a serial-USB interface, there are just cables, and interfaces that have some solid state built-in for buffering, etc., which from the forums sounds like it makes a difference. I got a Belkin S-U which works outstanding ($50 from CompUSA - needed one for other things anyway).

We drove around last night and logged some data - this is my first experience with a PC based system (used a few of the handhelds) and it worked fantastic! Logs massive amounts of data, that can displayed

The sampling rate seems pretty fast - I'll have to check out my settings and see what the default is. I'm running a pretty stout notebook so YMMV My LTFT's are **way** high @WOT (+14 to + 16%) as I expected from my mods without tuning - advance seemed good at 22-24* (though I need to study the high speed/WOT more carefully). I didn't record any KR. This is with checking logs out for like 2 minutes, so obviously I need to spend some time with these and gen up some more.

When we got back I fired up the VCM flash and downloaded my stock PCM - took, as advertised, 2 minutes! (Actually the site says 2 minutes for up to '02s and 4 minutes for 03-04, mine is an 03 so go figure). Curious to see the write time, since it's shown as ~ 27 seconds!

Then I just made a copy of the file, and stuck the stock bin file in a secure place so I'll always have a stock program to fall back on! The upload/download is a big thing for incremental tuning - I don't want to have to

I opened the bin (PCM dump) file in the editor and didn't modify it at this point, but checked out the interface, say how you can tweak things using tables or graphically by dragging the graphs around.

You can control spark v. airflow v. rpm, high/low octane, IFR, PE (% and X) v. MAP and RPM, etc., etc. comp the speedo for non-OEM tires, change the fans, shift points, AC on/off vs. RPM CAGS, disable sensors (like rear 02's) reset DTC's, etc, etc., etc. WOoOOoo! I'm gonna have a great time! Heheheh, maybe I **wont'** have to post about blowing my motor ( or just maybe I want to? "Honey, now I have to get that 427 I was talking about" )

There's a ton of support out there too - on this site, LS1Tech, the HPT support forums - people offering to check out log files all over. FYI - There are plans for a substantial 2.0 upgrade in the next few months, and you get 6 months of free upgrades (and you can upgrade your license to longer free upgrades anytime during that).

DT, thanks for the rundown! What mods to you have that threw off your LTFT's? I didn't see any in your sig.

Hey BQ!

I'm running a Supermaxx LT system, and have an airbridge and Blackwing w/ shroud. Of course, the car may have been rich right from the factory - as I understand they tend to be.

FYI on the blackwing shroud - my IAT was 85* yesterday afternoon cruising around town at 45MPH, and the outside temp was about the same mid to low 80's - from what I've heard of other folks IAT, it's higher (?) Just wondering about the effectiveness of that shroud (I got it used and cheap so no biggie if it's only cosmetic )

I'm going to be doing a S3 TB and a FAST intake, and then possibly heads or heads *and* cam - I also have some " off road" pipes coming, so I can see how !cats effects the overall tuning!

Seeya!

Have a Safe and Happy 4th

DT
