Default Considering buying a tuner kit

I am looking to purchase something to track data while I drive. I was considering HP Tuners Pro, and also EFI live.

If I go with EFI live is the 1.2 scan/tune commercial version good enough? What does the 2.0 version offer that the 1.2 does not. I have seen a couple 1.2 for sale used and may be able to get a good deal.

Mostly I want to log data, later I may begin tweaking the tune, but I am supercharged and want to make sure that it is running within specs during all seasons / and drivability situations.

Any reccommendations would be great

Thanks

Toby

Toby....are you an experienced tuner? If so,this approach sounds good.If you are not and since your car is SC,I would consider a dyno tune OR one of the mail order tunes by ECS or Chuck Cow.They can make the correct adjustments for the SC.

Also,if you plan to drag/track the car,I would absolutely do the dyno or the mail order tunes.

I have the Predator and I like it for my low mod 02Z and the few things I wanted to do.

That's just my opinion....Opinions Vary.Either way.....take care & have some fun...

not an experianced tuner, but I am using it mostly to log data, Mark, a local guy that tunes for MSI and a couple other hot rod shops in town did a good job tuning it. I want to get a dyno tune and make sure everything is working in order. As far as buying a tuner I want to be able to monitor what the car is doing during the change of seasons ect. In the future I may want to tweak the tune a little, but it would be done by a tuner / the supervision of a tuner. I figured the more real workd data they have the better.

Do mail order tunes work? I have a decent cam / injectors / built heads, 9.5 forged s.b. + 10lbs of boost. Wouldn't different climates / builds ect require different tunes, and a mail order tune may not be perfect for my situation?

I vote HPtuners as well. I went back and forth on this and in the end HPtuners sounded best to me. I am not an experienced tuner (I am learning). If I were you, I wouldn't do a mail order tune. The only way to get the car correctly tuned is to Dyno tune it AND a drive around town tune for daily drive-ability. Once those are dialed in correctly there should not be a reason to change the tune for seasons. The computer should (if tuned correctly) make the changes for you.

I am SC as well. I have been dialing in my tune. WOT is done (easy part). Getting the tables correct for city driving takes more time. VE part anyways, not so much the MAF tables.

If you are just wanting to scan and not tune, just buy scanning s/w. Cheaper than buying a tuner package. HPtuners sells just the scanner part of their s/w. Don't recall if EFI live does as well.

It seems to be tuned well, although it was not dyno tuned. It was tuned by a well know corvette shop here in town. There are no issues I really want to log data, but would consider "tweaking" the tune if under the right supervision. I have seen a few EFI live 1.2 commercial scann / tune for sell at a good price ($250 - 400) with 2 VIN credit available. Those seemed to be able to log with a wideband and tune also. Most data loggers seemed to be about the same price, but I have not seen that many. I am considering HP Tuners Pro also, I just don't think I want to spend that much money when I am mainly logging data.

What is the best scanner available?

Which one holds a decent amount of data (couple hours)?

Which one has wideband capabilities?

I am considering HP Tuners as the tuner that did my car runs it.

It is if you are logging WOT (PE mode) runs, otherwise the LTFTs will show the tuner what changes need to be made. It is pretty telling watching your AFR. I have one installed in my A-Pillar. Always know what is going on with a wideband installed.

You don't need to buy the Pro version. HPtuners scanner is around the same price as EFI live. $349 to EFI live $399 V2. Not sure of the difference between that and the 1.2 you mentioned. Both are good and will do what you want. If I were you though, I would get a dyno tune. Look at the specs of both and decide from there. Both are real good scanners.

As time to scan, HPtuners says 1 hour 30 minutes. EFI live V2 says unlimited. Both scanners support wideband capabilities.

I have HPT Pro, also NGK AFX WB with a spare wiring harness. The harness is permanently routed so all I have to do Plug in the WB sensor, plug the control box into the permanently routed wiring then plug that into HPT Pro Data Logger.

You do not have use your Lab Top you can data log....either way.

Some very good training material hitting the street for us simple folks if you want to learn.

You can do allot of tuning on the street, drivability is were you spend the bulk of your tuning time.
