Default Need SDM information, does it trigger air bags of just record information?

PLEASE just someone here with REAL GM electronics expirience. I need to know if the C5 SDM module is just and event recorder or if it is part of the air bag deployment system. Thanks for your knowledgeable reply! I know the 2002 C5 Z06 runs/drives fine with box disconnected but the air bag warning lamp light displays in the dashboard.

Thanks for the link but, it still dosen't answer the question of what the box does for a "living" in the C5 Vette. I think it is an "event recorder" only but, don't have a manual to confirm this. I guess I will try to find a wiring diagram for a C5 Vette. I wish there was someone here who worked for GM to answer my question.

If you have had the steering shaft off of the car and someone turned the wheel you (or they) could have broken the ribbon in the sensor in the column or you could have the sensor in the base of the wheel misaligned if you did not put the steering wheel back in the right place.

I have never had one with the airbag light on that was not one of these three issues.

Hope that helps.

I have found another article about the SDM box, it does calculate when to deploy the airbags or not. http://www.chiroweb.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=18263. Hope this helps.
