Default Is my vette worth a street tune?

I have an '01 LS1 with cold/ram air intake, upgraded hoses, magnaflow exhaust, and a breathless performance power air coupler...Everything else is generally stock. I took my car into a performance shop and they told me my car is not getting the full potential of all the mods. until I get a street tune. Is it worth it?

All of our cars are worth a tune. It will free up a some HP because of the way they are tuned at the factory.
I'd say go for it

I agree with above, but why not wait till u get the headers and tune altogether, as street tune will cost ya atleast $300 bucks, also install 160 stat or 180 stat that will help lowering coolant temp, without effecting emmissions or driveability.

If u not installing headers in future than just go ahead and tune it.

Street Tunes are definitely worth it and there is much to gain. I tune much cheaper than $300 and they car will be a lot better.

Exactly; If you do plan on getting headers, I'd wait for the tune, since it will improve the air flow (VE) the most, if not, go ahead and have them tune it and make it a little more drivable and stronger .

Bringing an old thread back... what exactly is a "street tune"? I mean I've heard the term tossed around, but what exactly is modified / tuned for performance and how does it differ from another tune?

Compared to a dyno tune.... Which is turning a drum while the car is stationary, a street tune is closer to a real world environment since the entire weight of the car is being accelerated and with real world air temps and conditions.

A street tune is the best thing out there. You can then see what it makes on a dyno... but seeing the fuel trims and others aspects of a 3 hour drive get tuned close to perfection... you'll swear by it as the benchmark to judge by.

I agree with everything said---many places will do a "street driveability tune " in addition to a dyno tune--A dyno tune is manily for all out top end HP---Actually for a daily driver type car it's not a real world benefit other then bragging to your buddiies about your RWHP---A street tune will address more real world issues like shift points--firmness --converter lock-up ( you didn't mention if you had an A4 or a manual trans)-correcting fuel trims for street driving MAF rates--pinging or spark knock-- to name a few---
IF you have an A4--absolutely have a (street) tune---You can typically gain 2-5 tenths in the 1/4 mile without adding a single HP or mod by tuning the trans alone !!!!!
Most places will re-tune your car after mods (like headers) for a discounted price than the original tune--

I say yes on the tune, Chuck CoW has a 199 special now and you can tune your car now and when the time comes to add headers he will retune for free...
Can't beat the 199 tune, It was the best felt mod for the money.

Another VERY SMART MAN! Anyone who tells you it's not worth tuning a stock C5...Especially, an automatic C5, Shouldn't be playing this game.

Every Christmas, I do nearly 100 $199 mail order tunes and 50% of those customers have NO MODS! Just the tune.

They all seem to love it and the gains ARE REALLY THERE!

Get your pcm up to me and I'll prove it to you.

Where do you guys keep finding the $300 non "mail in" tune? Every shop including the one I chose it ran $500. Maybe depends on the area?

To the OP: It's worth it. If you have an auto it's really worth it. But if headers are in your near future then wait.

Default Tune made big difference

Hi Guys
My 02 A4 has not up to snuff, Having sudden issues with Pinging on anything over 3/4 throttle. Got my mechanic to check the fuel system. Ended up with maybe a bad load of fuel? Fuel Filter was plugged almost solid. Changed the pump and filter. Big difference. Still even after a pressure clean of the injectors still just did not do what I hoped it would.
Took it to a local guy. First pull was 293@5500 and 306@4100. Last pull was 306@5600 and 333@4100. He spent 3 hours and my car spins the Michlein Pilots now and it would just squeek then before. Burned the Goodyears easily when I switched tires it just hooked and went. I have 2.73 rears so bottom end torque is a big thing. and I have it now.

We perform all tunes as both a street and dyno tune, so that way all aspects are properly covered for the customer. There are pro's and cons to only doing one or the other, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Doug got it straight. The best way is to do the above. A mailorder tune is for someone not close to a respectable shop.A full tune with someone logging is the best way to tune a car in.

By the way..... I forgot to mention... I'm going to be in Houston some time in the next 60 days at VARARAM....

What that means to you is that you do the mail order $199. tune now and when I get to Texas, I Check/re-do the tune live on the road with a wideband...TOTALLY FOR FREE.

A deal that's TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to BEAT!

Stay TUNED!

As a complete tuning neophyte I've been reading through some threads in an attempt to pick up some knowledge. I bought an 01' C5 in 05' with some known mods. Borla Exhaust, a Z06 cold air intake and airbox, high-flow intake duct, skip shift mod/delete and possibly more. But since I bought it from a dealer I didn't talk to original owner and can't tell if the cars been chipped/tuned. I'm thinking that it's a very good possibility that it has because of the number of mods but......is there anyway that I can tell without going ot a tuner and paying to find out??? The car seems pretty quick and it sounds great but of course I'd like to get the most out of it as I can without adding more parts and $$ if it's possible! Bottom line.....is there anyway that I can tell if the cars been tuned/chipped without spending the $$?
