Default Mechanical or Electrical gauges?

I am installing Andy's SC kit in my '04 Z06 and had some mechanical gauges lying around the garage from my old SC setup in my '99 C5. Was planning on reusing these along with the senders but you guessed it.....I can't find the buggers.

So it looks like I will have to buy new ones. I'm in a rush to get the gauges in so I can run/tune the car with the new A&A SC before I leave for my first track event beginning of May. I thought for ease & quickness of install, putting in these....

Then if I don't like, I can always switch out but at least I will have the gauges quickly installed to safely monitor FP & Vac/Boost with the new SC setup.

Wondering how OBD2 readings on these gauges differ from having mechanical sending units at various engine locations (speed of feedback, accuracy, etc.), especially with Fuel Pressure & Vacuum/Boost. Recommendations or words-of-advice?????????? Thanks.

AFAIK no OBDII fuel pressure reading exists for the C5. I think you'll have to go with an electric sending unit at the front of the driver's side fuel rail and a gauge in the cabin.

Yeah, I just looked at the OBD2 parameters and I agree...no FP. Thanks for the response.

You may want to look at the PLX displays. I have three DM-200 displays in my car. I monitor my AFR, Fuel Pressure, and Boost. Plus one of my displays also shows many parameters from the OBDII port.

You can install a Autometer sending unit on the fuel rail, use the empty PCM pins for the EGR (pins are 50 cents a piece, need 3). The power for the EGR is 5v tapped at the EGR + PCM pin (power for the autometer sending unit is 5V), the ground goes to the PCM and then there is voltage fed for the EGR to the PCM. What you will get is EGR info from the OBDII (I believe its just voltage from the sending unit you can read). You then make a calculated PID to convert the EGR voltage to a fuel pressure through EFI-Live (I have done this) or HPT.

The EFI Live V2 can do Black Box logging so it will record what you want from the OBD port and all you do is pull out a SD disc and then can review all the parameters after the run/event. I do not run a fuel gauge I just review the logs.

I think I'm going to go the old-fashion route & just get my gauges from Andy @ A&A.

CSDunaway - awesome gauges...maybe for me in the future.

Beer99C5 - wow, nice setup! Looking for quickness of install so next best thing to plug-n-play is what I need right now since I only have one week to finish up my SC setup before leaving for my track event. Maybe I'll tinker around with this when I get back. Thanks!
