I am on the verge of purchasing HP Tuners and was doing some research. I see that a PCM cannot be read/written if it has been locked by a tuning program. Without purchasing HP Tuners and attempting to use it, is there a way to tell if my PCM was locked by the previous tuner?
If anyone has any insight as to how MTI in Houston conducted business (if they locked their tunes) it would be greatly appreciated, as I see they are currently out of business.
Just call up a local tuner and tell him you just want him to plug in and see if your tune is locked. Take all but a couple minutes to check and your outa there. Other than that finding other MTI customers and asking them if their tunes were locked if they tried to access them.
Tuners shouldnt lock a tune period. The customer is paying for their tune so why should the tuner lock it on them without telling them?
Cool.... I didn't know if there was some "trick" out there or not. I'll check and see if any local tuners can do this for me. Thanks for your time, briann510.
No problem...Before I bought my HPTuners I had hoped my tuner had not locked it (he had not).
If it is locked you can just buy another used computer for your car (not very expensive for a used one) and upload a stock tune to it and start from there. There are a few people that know how to solder a new circuit board on top of your stock one as well to bypass a locked tune.
