Returning locked pcm to stock settings
I have a 2000 and I recently went and had the pcm pluged into with a tech 2 by gm. And they found that the pcm was locked by a previous tune. Is there a way to whipe the pcm clean and then reinstall the original settings back into it so it would be unlocked. Or will I just have to buy a new pcm.......

There are some people who can unlock them if the previous tuner cannot be located, but it requires replacing a chip on the board.
We used to fix them for people, but the price has come down so far on those PCM's now (that auction site) that it is really easier to just buy another one.

Hi Tony and Joey P,
Yes, they are in Aussie, but it's not that far if you Really need your pcm unlocked. I'll try to find someone here in the states for you. With the costs of pcm's coming down, it might be cheaper to buy a new one and then flash your tune on it. Just a suggestion.
Good Luck!

Ok I talked to mike at straightline a vendor on here and he said the only way to fix this problem is to replace the pcm. He also said that you could use a used pcm and have your vin put to it and let it learn your other system. As long as the used pcm has the stock tune on it....He is located in new lenox il, If your intrested in speaking with him directly.

I ran into the same problem with my 99 that I just bought. The pcm was locked and no one not even the previous owner knew who the tuner was. I ended up having to get a new pcm.

I've never tried these Guys, just giving out info that I've found (you're trying at your own risk) but here goes:
New GM PCM's with the OEM tune flashed into it. I don't think that they're priced badly either..................

Got a PM from euro@EFIAlchemy.com and probably going to go that route.

Thanks guys.
I have had a few set-backs on my time table so it will be a couple of months, but I'll post up info for the next one with this problem.

Pretty easy to fix this. We actually unsolder the chip and do a hard flash and burn a new OS to it. Let us know if we can help. Or you can buy a new box too.
