Default Oil consumption

I’ve noticed my car is using about 1qt. of oil every 1000 miles. I do drive it hard, but I don’t know when I really am having a problem with consumption. The motor is built 408 low comp with about 10k on it. Any advice here would be appreciated.

1qt per 1k mi is not abnormal on an engine like yours, is it?

It it blow by in the manifold or is it blowing by the rings.

If it is blowing by the rings then it's a problem. Have you done a leak down test on your cylinders ?

Always a good palce to start. Hope it isn't anything major. That's a real nice turbo system you have.

An LS1 has a horrible PCV system-That's why many people including myself have changed to a LS6 PCV valley and addded a catch can assembly--Take the T-Body off and look inside the intake manifold--You'll be shocked at the amount of oil in the manifold--chances are if your manifold is shiny and oily --the consumption is coming from there--
If it's coming past the rings or vave guide seals is a whole other story--Chances are that when your motor was re-bulit to a 408 all that stuff was replaced with new parts and should be OK--
Pull out a spark plug and look down into it with a magnifying glass and a light----down deep inside where the porcelain meets the metal andsee if there is any oil residue--usually a dark bubbly ring---This indicates oil getting into the combustion chambers badly--
