Default What is best OBDII Scanner or data logger?

Hey All,

Im looking to buy an OBDII scanner/datalogger. I considered buying HPTuners or EFILive, but it was just too expensive, I didnt want to take the time to learn how to tune these cars properly, and I didnt want to have to buy and install a wideband on my car.

So, I want to buy an OBDII logger so I can record, then view a bunch of graphs of whats going on in my engine. I'd like to use this to diagnose the quality of my tune and any problems I might encounter.

I have a laptop, so I dont need a logger with a screen, just something cheap that will plug in to my OBDII prot, record a lot of different parameters, show me data in graphical form on my laptop, can show me realtime data while the car is running.

Thanks for your help.

autotap

I think hp and efi also have data only tools, check into it. 3 bills or more is about the going rate for anything worth a hoot.

I'm interested in this as well, I don't see CAN compatibility listed though.

Hey Chevy Guy, why do you need CAN compatibility? I know that all new cars after 2008 or something must have CAN, but have any vettes had CAN on them?

Regarding wideband, Im not trying to do full throttle diagnosis, I'll leave that to the dyno, I just want to analyze driveability. So, I dont need a wideband (though they are awesome tuning tools).

I figure if I am going to spend some coin, I might as well get something I can hold on to. My wife will be getting a new car soon so I would like it to be current. The price is still right though.

its actually most cars made from 05+ need a CAN ready scanner.

05+ vettes need this but not C5's. C5's can use a standard obd2 scanner without issue.

Contacted LapLogger support about CAN and this is what I got. Might be worth it if they don't raise prices too much.

Hello
Thanks for your interest in LapLOgger

Our current interface is not, but our soon to be released interface will support CAN and all of the other encodings in one-box does it all and will be wireless bluetooth capable, we are a few weeks close from releasing it

Regards

Just make sure it will scan all enhanced PID's at a minimum...many tuning software packages such as ours even provide hundreds of MPID's which are a breakdown of certain enhanced PID's ie instead of only being able to see spark advance you'll see every possible advance adder ie ECT adder, iat adder, advance per cylinder 1-8, Clutch fuel cutoff advance, egr advance, etc.

Do you have a simple code and sensor reader? I want to read codes, clear them, and see real time sensor output like 02 and such.
