Default Which mods to do first???

Hey guys,

Just purchased my first vette ever, 02 6-speed, 18K mi. from original owner. Car is all stock. What mods would you start with...exhaust, cold air intake, thermostat, handheld tuner, etc? I have little knowedge of which brands are proven best to use. Any info. would really help. Came from old school prostreet camaro tech. Thanks so much, Jim.

GO for the hand held predator, 399.$ , after LT etc , air intake I got one so I could program for my 3.42 and TC for my A 4 .. This thing woke the car up like you would not beleive...Had I got it just as a mode I probably would had not bought a 3.42 and TC as I am so impressed by the porformance that it provided.....But like most modes you get use to them and im sure that down the road i would of puchased the 3.42 and TC.
PS the 3.42 and TC are going in next week.

I did the LS1edit program from a reputable shop and my car feels different. If is a better feel. I think if is worth the money. I also have a catback and cold air. start there and you will be happy.

Thanks...not sure about all the abreviations you are using here. LT being light tune?, 3.42 is gear ratio?, TC?, A 4? Sorry for the ignorance.

WOW we have a real new beeeeee. LT= Long Tube Headers, 3.42 is rear gear ratio. All Autos have either 2.73 or 3.15 gear ratios.. 3.42 is a big upgrade. TC= Torque Convertor. Most people get their TC and rear end changed at the same time because it saves $$$$ on labor.

Good Luck and welcome.

Start with gears(4.10s), CAI, and full exhaust. Best mods for the dollar.

Thanks guys. Money aside, which CAI's would you suggest for best beathing and HP gain? As for exhaust, I am hearing Kooks LT headers, Borla, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Corsa, etc. going back. I want a nice deep less restricted sound but not so obnoxious that I can't take the car on short trips. Are they typically bolt on or modifications required?

I am so glad someone asked I had no idea what everyone was waffling on about with these codes :P

I have a an other super newbie question too, I have a 2004 LS1 Automatic. Now when you say change the gear ratio is that a Mechanical thing (Buy new bits) or a tune thing?

Also I hear lots of folks talking about getting their car Chipped... is that worth a look in a Corvette? Just no one mentions it here. Sorry for piggy backing the post but all n00bs should stick together

First of all a gear swap is a mechanical thing "OMG how sweet would it be to have an electronic rear end we could tune!". Second gear swaps in these cars are a pain for most people you have to basically buy a complete new rear end look at spending $800-1500 depending on if its new or used "unlike most other cars you just buy gears $200" then you get to do the work yourself IF you have that kind of mechanical know how or pay someone else to do it about $800 "almost anyother car would cost around $100-200 to have swap done".

Now back to the recommendations on the other parts

For tuning forget the handheld tuners they are so limited in performance increases because the tunes are so safe. They are to be made to be completely idiot proof. Find a good shop that does custom tuning and let them tune it the results will be alot better.

CAI take your choice they all are so close it dosen't matter much just stay with the major brands: Vara Ram, Honker, Blackwing ect.. "But please don't post a topic asking which is better there is enough old topics fighting over this just do a search."

Exhaust is pretty much the same way Personally I have the cheapest set of headers/x pipe combo out there and love them and I saved well over $1000 on them compared to the other brands and I highly recommend Corsa mufflers also.

Now as far as noise levels go with the exhaust my car had the Corsa's on it when I bought it and it sounded awesome!! It was almost like an Indy car. My wife even loved it but after I put the headers/X pipe on it well it became noisey. Some may think I'm a puss but it was to loud for my taste "Sorry but its a sports car not a 72 Chevelle with a rat in it" so me and the wife spent a day putting sound deading material in it and everything is A OK now and she can ride in it for long trips with A/C on and windows up and I don't get that I hate the sound of this car glare all the way. lmao

Still wish I had the Corsa only sound with the power of my headers on though.
