Default Tuning ??

I about to install my G5X4 cam and its a cam only Vette. There is a Tuner that is one hour away, $400 who tunes Trans Ams and Camaros, and never tuned a Vette, but said he can. Would he be good enough for my Vette or whould I have to go 3 hours, $600 to a very good Vette Tuner? I dont mind going 3 hours and paying $200 more, It would be easier to go to the closer guy. Please Help ME!!

Thanks Bryan

Talk to the other Gen3/4 owners they have tuned. Even though they are a different body style, the methods are the same.

If the tuner can put a scanner and take a test drive, he should be able to log the necessary parameters he needs to change, the PCM tuning should be the same whether vette or camaro. The tables and values maybe different but the scan log will isolate the accel/decel idle problems.

I would choose someone as mentioned above that does scanning and logging. It is more important to have a dyno tune or a drive " in the seat" tune than picking one by what types of cars they do---Not really much differance between a C5 and camaro-truck etc.Just table parameters are not similar but tables themselves are. Reputation is important too---$500 seems very high on the vette tax scale to me---I know what i charge and i couldn't face someone and charge them $500 here.

dawgguy,
Check out the Pacific Northwest Regional forums.
There is a guy named Tom Wong that is highly regarded. He's in Vancouver, WA.

Here's a link.

If it were me, I would just bite the bullet and go to a Corvette specialist. One of the tuning challenges with a cam is getting the car to idle properly in closed loop and open loop. The technique is different in vettes because of the drive-by-wire throttle body.
