Default PO343 Cam Position Sensor Voltage High.

Ok, here is the story.
About a month ago the car tried to toss the crank pulley at the track. I got it 1/2 way back on, and milked it home.
The car sat for 2 weeks, then I pinned the crank, and installed a new bolt.
he battery was dead so I jumped the car, and drove it.
At this point, I got a PO343 code.
The 2nd gear is also now shot. Keep in mind, I am sure these are unrelated, and just coincidences, however, I wanted to mention everything.
I have installed a brand new cam position sensor, and the code will still not go away. I am at a loss as to what to do.
I tried to do a case relearn through HPT, but I am not sure if I am doing it right, or even if it is what needs to be done.
Anyone have any ideas?
Car is an 04 GTO BTW, but it is still an LS1.

The following conditions may cause this DTC to set:
- Poor connections
- Camshaft reluctor wheel damage
- The sensor coming in contact with the reluctor wheel

If you can't nail it down I'd find someone with a Tech II and check the Failure records for why it spewed.

If you don't have any luck email me and I'll send you a copy f the section from the Service Manual that covers the Cam sensor.

I had this same P0343 code come up. The cam sprocket bolts had become loose. Seems GM didn't use any thread locking compound. I drove the car a short time with the code. This was a mistake as it ruined the cam and lifters. The only way I know to check the bolts is to pull the timing cover and look.

How did you know the cam and lifters were ruined? Did you pull it all apart, or was there some sort of noise/problem that brought you to that conclusion?

At first there was no noise, but a few miles later a slight knock (this was the bolts hitting the timing cover. I decided to remove the cover and have a look. good thing I did because it would not have ran much longer. I guess the bolts being loose allowed the cam to walk a bit and gouged/scratched the lobes and the lifter rollers. Gave me a good excuse to install one of ECS's blower cams.
Hope this is not your problem.

Yeah, I hope not as well. The engine does not appear to be making any noises, but I am not going to drive it all again until I have a chance to tear into. I also have an ls6 cam on the way for good measure.

Thanx for your post. I am tearing into it this weekend. Also got a ls6 cam to slide in there while I am at it.

Thanx for the help guys, that is exactly what it was, loose cam gear. I slipped a new cam in, and put some red loctite on the bolts. Fortunately I believe I caught it before it had a chance to damage anything.

You've been busy! Glad you fixed it, what a job... Did you re-use the crank bolt or get a new one? Keep a close eye on the crank pulley for the next 100 miles and make sure it doesn't back out. Mine did and the easiest way to notice it is the A/C belt alignment was off the tensioner pulley, due to the crank pulley moving. Then it started making some funny belt noises. I dipped that crank bolt in loctite the 2nd time and it's held up good.

Yeah, we worked on it this morning. Next weekend is the new tranny. Weekend after that is all new brakes. Damn car is keeping me busy right now.
The crank pulley has a brand new bolt, and is pinned with the magnuson pin kit. I followed the torque specs when installing it.
Thanx for the advice though, I will watch it.

I have the po343 code, the car is very hard to start if it starts at all. My 02 z06 is bone stock. Any chance its just the sensor? It seems like the guys with the cam bolts backing off are the modded cars? Is there any other possibility?
