Default LS1 EDIT/HPTuners/SD TUNING..WHICH ONE?

question is what is the major differences in these types of tuning, from what i understand ls1 edit is the basic then hp tuners more advanced and expensive and the best is SD tuning and the most expensive. my car has G5X3, forged ls6, large stall, AFR 205s, every bolt on imaginable, still got the surging and bucking at 1500 rpm(i know this is to be expected with a large cam) sometimes if the air is left on when you start the car it dies, sometimes when i apply the brakes coming to a stoplight the rpm actually goes up a couple hundred, and of course the cooling issue,i think from what i have read and heard the SD tuning would be for me, also seen some of A&A CORVETTES (charlie tuners results on this same kind of A4 setup) all input and experiences with the SD tuning would be greatly appreciated.

Don't waste your money on LS1Edit.. will it work..yes.

I use HP Tuners and am very happy with it.

As far as speed density tuning goes.. just don't listen to everyone out there ditching their MAF's and going to speed density because it is better. If it were better.. they would not be using MAF's. The MAF keeps the driveability perfect. No matter what anyone tells you SD is harder to setup and keep right, it will require some tweeks.

The money spent on tuning and really understanding what is going on with your engine and the tune is priceless.

Plan on spending $800-900 for a good tuning package and a wideband.

IMO, the best two choices are HPT and EFI LIVE. And I am having a hard time trying to decide which one to get myself.

I don't know if it is just that there are more people on the forum that use HP Tuners or what but there are certainly more HP Tuners guys that have posted or have given help than I have seen discussions, etc of EFI Live.

I agree both are equally usuable tools.

I have a tuning business and use EFI Live everyday. I would not waste your money on ls1 edit. I also have HP Tuners but like EFI better. I do SD tunes from time to time, my own car is tuned that way. It all depends on the cam size, and other engine mods and the condition of the maf and what the customer wants on what tune I do. There are a lot of myths about sd that just that, myths. Everyone has there own opinion on sd just like everyone has there own tuning method.

I concurr. I feel that Hptuners might be a better tuning package for beginners as it is a bit more friendly to the eyes and most things are already setup. HOWEVER. I love EFIlive.. There are alot of really cool features in EFILive.. you just have to dig for them sometimes.

.

i will NOT be doing the tuning myself, just trying to see which is worth it for my setup leaning towards the HPTuners due to some of the postings saying SD is mafless and can be picky and have issues which i did not know about that part,

both HP and EFILive will do SD tuning.

edit:
just saw in your profile that you have a '98, in that case, right now, HP Tuners would be the way to go.

If it helps, here's a comparrison that was done by foff, an ls1tech moderator, and updated rather recently I believe with some feedback on the EFI Live product.

so from what i'm gathering i can pick from HP or EFILive then with either one you can do a SD (which means the maf will be removed) in my case i don't know if that would be beneficial or not, what i'm looking for is the best tune for my mods( big cam,A4.. afr heads, hot azz weather 99.9% of the time daily driver to keep this car as tame and driveable with the least amount of bucking, spitting fire out of the tailpipe kinda thing j/k. i know that with all this stuff it's gonna be a little out of control and can accept that if it has to be that way, however i feel that this car can be tuned a whole lot better and updated vs what has been done in the past(basic stuff). thanks all and anymore replies are welcomed detailing the SD part. so as it sits i'm leaning towards the HP and maybe the sd part(need more info). thanks again.

LOL---->> Go Ken. HTP FTW

actually I'm a bit biased cause I use HPT and like it, not to mention the awesome support. EFI will do the trick also.

If you aren't going to be doing the tuning, then what does it matter? Take it to a reputable tuner and be done with it <shrug>

Just to throw another log into the fire. EFILive offers classes to anybody who wants to learn tuning. From tuning 101 to advance.
Granted, I'm impartial to either HPTuners or EFILive, I don't own neither one, and I don't know tuning from a hole in the ground. With that said, I've found this link...

I'm just poking a little fun at Black 01 for a blatant advertising post
Truth is HP Tuners is the only one who has stepped up to the plate to be a supporting vendor of this site since we became a company.

EFI Live and EFI University are two separate entities. EFI University covers fuel injection tuning that is not software specific. It's the underlying principles on how this all plays together. What you learn there is relative to any tuning software.

As for learning, you can use our real time tuning (RTT) to make some changes and see the results on the scanner. It helps make the light bulb come on a little quicker.
