Default Is there such a product out there called "tuning for dummies"?

Seriously, is there any point in my looking into purchasing some tuning software, in order to make "routine" adjustments to my custom tuned PCM (H/C, hi stall TC, etc) on an '04 A4 coupe?

For example, shift points, corrections for fan speeds, and for rear-end gear changes, idle rpms, and for minor changes in timing to allow for driving in areas (like out West) where only 91 oct fuel is found and pinging/preignition is a common occurance in the deserts at 100+ degrees going up steep grades.

I am not inclined to be nickle and dimed to death by having to go to a professional tuner every time I want to have some minor adjustment made to the program.....besides there not being a reputable tuner within hundreds of miles of my location.

It's obvious (from what I've read and been told) that hand-held tuners are completely out of the question. So, is there a reasonable alternative available for a "dummie" like myself? If so, what are some of the recommendations....cost, ease of use, etc?

FWIW, I intend on keeping this vette for many many years to come, and not sell it off anytime soon.

LS1 Edit is about $500 so it HP tuners
if you plan on keeping the car, either of those might be considered a good investment
when i plan on buying tuner software, i will order HP Tuners

Lots of good info.

Keith, I have been out of town most of this month. Will work on some of that stuff when I get back in town.

There is a good book available called "Building & Tuning High-Performance Electronic Fuel Injection" by Ben Strader ISBN # 1-884089-79-8. It covers all kinds of after market EFI systems and also explains tuning pretty thoroughly. It sells for I believe $18.95 and is available from the publisher: www.cartechbooks.com
Amazon may have used ones available cheaper, but if you want to learn about tuning it's money well spent.
