Yes with a Tech II you can enable or disable this.
Only on 01 and up cars. With the advent of the Z06, with it's non-runflat tires, they had to program the computer to allow that feature to be disabled. 97-99 cars are out of luck.
What if you rewrote a '99 or '00 PCM with a '02 bin, could you then turn it off of the older car?
Changes would have to be made in the BCM not the PCM and if you flashed the BCM from a newer year then the key fobs would not work since the electronics changed on 2001

Sorry, shoulda read "97-00 are outta luck." And unfortunately, as mentioned above, since it's the BCM that contains this code, a tuner can't change it.
That really is a disappointment. I have been fighting that stupid message for over a year now. Anything pre-01 cars can do?
I think if you take the pressure sensors out of all the tires the computer won't throw the message. I noticed this because I threw my old wheels and tires on to autocross last summer and noticed the dash never threw the code (and the wheels don't have sensors in them).
I'm considering taking all my sensors out. The message seems to be more of a pain than it is worth.
I've got a whole slew of codes I wish I could program out... low coolant, tire pressure, ride control, etc.

I usually drive on my CCW setup and none of the wheel sensors are present. It throws the code every time. The reason you didn't have it come up during your autocross is that you have to drive x number of miles with no sensors before it will throw the code on the display. If there is anything we can do to get around this I'm all ears.

YEP EXATLY!!!
Mines comes back every 60 miles or so, then i clear it.
CrazyCarl,
Thanks for the response. I was just thinking tonight I need to take the wheels off the car and take them in to get the sensors taken out. I guess now I will think harder about buying a new sensor (I assume you have to buy a new one for $75, or is there a battery or something in them that is replaceable?).
DrSagan,
That would be fantastic! I don't know the details on it. Maybe the Service Manual would give some clues...
The 97-00 cars had the TPS in the firmware on the PCM. Unless you know someone in GM to rewrite your code, you cannot turn it off. No, I do not know anyone who can do it, but I tried. With the 01-04 they moved the code to the programmable area because of the Z06. For 05 1/2 they moved it to the TCM firmware and made the TC/AH part of the program.
We can still take the TPS from the rims and live with the code.. the new cars go to reduced power mode.
I will try to learn to live with the code. I get it at start-up and shut-down always. It also sometimes recurs while driving, but that seems to be random???
The little bit of research I did on this points to that the pressure sensors produce a varying frequency based on pressure and evidently the BCM reads this. What I don't know is whether the BCM turns the light on, or whether it communicates with the PCM which stores the code and sets the light. Anyone know?
Gordy, you mentioned the pressure stuff is hardcoded in the firmware and it can't be changed. The operating system and the lookup tables/settings are all stored in flash so, although not a trivial task, the operating system could be disassembled, edited, and reassembled to remove this(harder) or just widen the ranges(easier ) I just need more info before I would attempt the countless hours needed to do this.
