Default New to tuning few questions???

So I'm just starting this stuff and have a few questions. I'm looking at LFT's and they all started at around +9, I've added something like 15 to all the cells on the VE table and I'm now down to an average of 5-6 with some higher some lower. But after reading through the documentation it seems as if I'm supposed to have the MAF disabled through this. Can someone please explain this to me?

I also added timing to the lower rpms the car does seem to run better and now has the little stumble when I shut it off that it had stock. I get no knock retard even in 90 degree weather.

How much can you add to those cells without hurting anything? Also my WOT AFR was tuned by Mr Judd and while showing lean on the dyno its probably right on with the onboard WB he uses. Will my Part throttle tuning effect any of this?

Sorry if my questions sound stupid I feel a little lost, but this is always something I've wanted to learn after having 4 4th gens and now the C5 I think its time.

Thanks,

Bobby

What you are supposed to do depends on how you are going to tune the car.

If you are going to scale the MAF and not touch the VE table, then no you don't disable the MAF.

If you are going to leave the MAF alone and adjust the VE, then yes you do, but don't get the car into boost.

If you need more help try the search function first (not being a smartass) but I have personally typed up a "starters" tuning post on more than one occasion. There are also some very helpful posts on HP Tuners forum for the VE table (speed density)

If you want to try the MAF scaling method go here:
http://ls1edit.slowcar.net/tuning.html
The author wrote this with LS1 Edit in mind, but it is directly applicable to HP Tuners or whatever you are using.

If you need more help, let me know.

Thanks I will look for your threads on the subject. I have the article that you have a link to printed out as well as the starters guide from LS1tech.

It just seems like in these guides small changes work where as say I'm at +9 if I add 9 to the table value it only goes down to 7, you get the idea so I'm adding 25 just to get it to zero. Is that normal? Just want to make sure there is not something else I'm not seeing.

Also would like to know how what I'm doing effects the PE table I assume thats what you mean when you say boost as this is an NA car. My WOT is right on.

Thanks again I'm going to look at the MAF scaling maybe a combination of both will make a little sense... meaning leave the VE where it is and now start with the MAF scaling....

I'm reading all this stuff and understand concepts but I'd hate to hurt my car if you know what I mean so I'm a little tentitive when making changes...

Thanks!!

Bobby

Make sure you are following one of the two methods.. not both.

If you are going to be N/A.. the MAF scaling method is pretty easy.. even with my car I use this method.

Either will get you to the same place.

You need to make sure you are scaling the injectors first, and then leaving it.

If you are careful and follow one of the guides you will be fine.

If there is anything else you need post it up and I will help you as best I can. You are really not going to hurt anything playing with part throttle, if you are not lean (above 13:1 for N/A at WOT) you are in good shape.

Thanks for the compliments on the car.. I have done a few more things.. need to take some new pictures...
