I could not find this code anywhere. After a few minutes of driving I get Active Handling is Warming up and instead of saying complete it throws that code. I just did a clutch swap. Has anyone had this problem. Whats funny is the Traction Control light comes on and stays on, but I still can turn the traction control off and on, but that yellow light stays on. Also, as soon as it does not say warm up is complete I get service engine soon light. When I reset the process starts all over again.
There are two codes in the 1280 series that have to do with the steering wheel position sensor. One is for Active Handling and the other are for the cars without AH. If my memory is correct the 1283 is the AH code.
At the firewall is the SWP sensor, disconnect it an measure the voltage on the middle blue wire. It should be 2.4V, if not disconnect and turn wheel until 2.4V is registered and reconnect. If .24 or 4.9 V, you are 360deg out. This often happens after lowering and adding agressive handling alignment or other steeringwheel position changes.

When you say disconnect the SWP sensor you mean remove it from the firewall itself? Also, when you say turn the wheel you mean disconnect the steering from that joint and then turn the wheel?
There is a connector at the firewall in the passenger compartment. Separate the harness. Turn the ignition on and test the voltage. If that is the problem, then raise the front end, center the steering wheel, if you have the high or low voltage, you are 360 deg out. Disconnect the steering wheel and turn until the voltage is 2.4-2.5V. If you have an intermediate reading, e.g. 2.9V, turn the wheel until it reads 2.4-2.5V, then unloosen the tie rod connectors and move them in equal increments until the correct voltage is read, then tighten
I was helping a buddy troubleshoot this code and the diagnostic procedure leads you to either the yaw-rate sensor or the lateral accelerometer. We thought it was the steering sensor also. Email me if you'd like a copy of the C1283 diagnostic.
