Default I think I need a new key fob......

Mine quit working. I put a new battery in it and it worked for a day and now doesn't work again. I keep trying to reset it by holding down both buttons for 15 seconds; but nothing happens.

Anyone have one for sale or do I need to look into the problem being something with the car's computer or something?

The car is a 98 BTW. Thanks.

There should be something in the owners manual about reprogramming the fobs through the DIC. You might have to do this process to have it work long term.

I don't have my owners manual. It didn't come with the car. Can anyone tell me what the owner's manual said to do?

I got it to work once by just holding down both buttons; but now that doesn't reset it.

Thanks.

Transmitter Programming/Synchronization
Each transmitter has a unique Vehicle Access Code (VAC) that changes every 5 seconds. If a transmitter or receiver is replace, each transmitter must be programmed to the vehicle's receiver. Entering a specific button sequence on the DIC, up to three transmitters can be programmed into the receiver. After programming the transmitters to the vehicle, the receiver will update this code every 5 seconds in order to match the code programmed in the transmitter.

The transmitter may not communicate or become out of synchronization with the receiver if any of the following situations occurs:

The transmitter battery is disconnected.
The vehicle battery is disconnected.
The transmitter and the vehicle are separated for 2 weeks or more.
The receiver is disconnected.
Perform the synchronizing procedure if the transmitter does not communicate or becomes out of synchronization with the receiver. If the transmitter and/or receiver are replaced, preform the following programming procedure:

Programming Transmitters
Turn the ignition to ON.
Turn the radio to OFF.
Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC warning messages.
Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.
Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.
Press the OPTIONS button until FOB TRAINING message is displayed.
Press the RESET button in order to begin the programming sequence. The message HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.
Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for 15 seconds. The IPC will indicate when that transmitter is programmed and when to proceed to the next. Repeat this procedure for each additional transmitter or press the OPTIONS button to exit.
Programming Cancellation
The receiver will cancel the programming sequence if any of the following conditions occur:

The program mode is exited through the DIC.
The ignition is turned to OFF.
The three transmitters have been programmed.
The RFA system has been in the program mode for longer than 2 minutes and no transmitters have been learned.
If the program mode is cancelled with less than three codes stored, the receiver will only accept the codes just stored. If the program mode is cancelled before any code is stored, the codes still remain valid.

The receiver retains all current access codes in memory if either of the following conditions occur:

A programming sequence is interrupted.
The battery is disconnected.
Synchronizing Transmitters
Preform the following procedure if a transmitter cannot communicate or becomes out of synchronization with the receiver:

Move a programmed transmitter within range.
Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 7 seconds.
The horn will chirp once when the transmitter is synchronized. Repeat this procedure for each additional transmitter if needed.

My car came with only one key and an attached alarm FOB. If I press it, nothing at all happens. It seems like it's completely dead. I just attempted this FOB Training sequence, and when it got to "Press & Hold Lock and Unlock," nothing happened. Maybe it needs a new battery. But before I go and buy one, please tell me if I have the right FOB. It has 4 keys. Lock and Unlock on the left and right respectively on top. In the bottom row, there is a red Horn key on the left and trunk release on the right. Does this sound right? Should I just go an get another alarm for the car? I hope not.

xSSv,
your remote has the passive switch, make sure it's in the off position.
check the battery contacts inside the remote for proper tension and if they need cleaning.
then follow the instructions that bowtiebandit gave you.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. It was simply a case of the dead battery in the FOB. It's working now. Man, that's why I love car discussion forums. You guys have been nothing but help. I've already learned so much in the past week on this site. Y'All RULE!!!

cyclerage 23,
exactly how is it not working?
do you mean you can't get them programmed or are you saying you can program them but they won't work?

I get to th part where the DIC says to hold the lock+unlock buttons and thats it. nothing changes. After a while it goes back to the prior screen.

OK, lets see. Make sure the passive switch is in the off position.
Make sure you are pressing the lock & unlock buttons at the same time.
Make sure you are giving the full 15 seconds for the DIC to program.
You won't hear the horn blow or anything, the DIC will display Fob Learned and you go to the next transmitter.
Try it again and let me know.
You can email me or maybe a phone conversation will help.
These remotes can be tricky and something is strange since you can't get any of the three remotes programmed.
one more thing. Are your tire pressure sensors giving you readouts when you're driving?

I have done that extactly. I think my remotes may not be correct, 1-I'm pretty sure is from an 01, the 2nd doesnt have the passive switch on it, the 3rd has the passive switch but something is rattling around inside.
My tire pressure gauges dont read, I have aftermaket wheel on the car. ANy help would be apreciated.
thanks, Jason

On the back of your remote the GM # should read 10253839.
If it doesn't have the passive switch it's not the right remote.
The rattle inside the remote is normal for the passive remotes.
Did you have your sensors installed in your aftermarket wheels?
If so and you're not getting air pressure readings from them then it's possible you could have a bad receiver. Your sensor and remotes work on the same frequency.
But first we need to make sure at least one of those three remotes is the right one for your 99. Check the # on the back and let me know.
