Is this a one-time use kit to defeat the column lock? It uses the cig lighter power source, so seems like if it were permanent, one would lose the use of the cig lighter ?

The plug-in harness for the cigarette lighter adapter is used to retract the lock once then unplugged

How does this unit compare to the LMC5? Our 2004 with 37,000 on the clock had the column lock occur last Saturday. I was able to "fix" temporarily by pulling circuit breakers 23, 25 and 29 in the passenger footwell fuse box. I was going to purchase the other unit today but was interested in yours.
Thanks,
Chas

Just because your wheel doesn't lock doesn't mean you will never have the problem. Recall yrs ago was a bandaid and apt to fail. This device and LMC5 are only fixes out there to my knowledge. Both work but install differently. LMC5 install in the BCM passenger footwell behind kick panel. I have installed this on my previous 01. This one listed installs under the panel below steering wheel and maybe easier to install????. Never heard of this one failing but LMC5 at times needs the additional brown wire mod to eliminate the message, an additional step in the BCM. I hope this helps, weak battery can trigger message as well.

Originally, yes anti theft device but the recall yrs ago defeated that and they programmed in a fuel cut off at 2 mph if their recall failed. Automatics are different.
