Anyone know NC DOT laws?
well my vette only has 35000 miles on it but it is absolutely covered in stone chips. The hood is peppered and but the side lower rocker panels are the worst. It looks like they were sandblasted. I live on a road that had been paved in august when i got the car and it was done with that crazy pavement that is like loose gravel at first and gets firm with time. I dont know if the state can be held responsible but their paving technique has cost me a paint job. those big tires pick up the rocks and just spray em down the sides even now, almost 6 months later. Anyone know if i can get any money or even complain to the DOT or someone? My paint is ruined because of their work and i dont feel like it is my responsiblity to repair it.

As a Concrete Paving Contractor I know I'm not held responsible for Damage unless It was Due to my Negligence or my Workers Negligence while Operating my Equipment at the time of Loss/Accident or if my work wasn't done per Specs. Sorry to hear about the Damage on Your Vette . It's hard to Squezze Money out of The State & County Transportation Depts.

I've heard that people got money when they hit a bad pothole and damaged a rim...i didnt know if that kind of damage was similar to this kind of damage...i mean i've seen vettes with 90k miles with far less chips then i have. its ridiculous that they put down pavement now that completely sandblasts the sides of low cars

Sorry I dont know about NC,although that's where I live, but a friend in GA got the state to pay for a new paint job on his New Jetta due to damage from salt spreaders. Does not hurt to ask call your local DOT or if others have the same problem on the road get a group to file a complaint

In Missouri the DOT will pay for certain damages, but not sure just what qualifies. I would contact your state's DOT and make the inquiry. It certainly can't hurt to ask.

notoriousdax I live over in Raleigh. I think you might pay more in lawers fees in an attempt to collect from a state agency vs what it will cost to paint your car.
ANd I think Jonny P has a good point. You may have to have eveything dated BEFORE the incident and after the dammage.
Good Luck

Well, here if you hit a pothole
1. take picture of pothole
2. get estimate to fix
3. file with local city/town
4. call 12 times about the claim
5. wait 6 months and a check comes.
Since your taxes pay to keep up the roads, I would say give it a shot. I got $600 back when my wife snaped a rim and blew a tire in a pothole on her old BMW.

I know here where I live if a problem has not been report prior to the damage they are not responsible. For example a pothole. The city needs to be notified of the location of the pothole since they are unaware of it to start with. Once it has been reported and you damage a wheel then they need to pay for the damage.
