f*&%^#@ column lock again!!! :(
Well, I thought the CLB kit was supposed to fix this problem....
Brief recap-- few months back I had service column lock problem, took to dealer, they replace lock mechanism, next day fails again, they some how "fix it". That night I install CLB before leaving dealer. Fastforward to this Tuesday afternoon...Wife calls, Shes getting message Pull key wait 10secs...Im thinking "oh shizit here we go again"
Wednesday no msgs, so I'm thinking its the wife's driving ...Thursday I get a Pull Key and Wait 10 once, do that and no problems...Today however.....I get a pull key followed by the dreaded SERVICE COLUMN LOCK!!! Well, I guess with the CLB I can turn the wheel but can't go anywhere cause the car keeps shutting off!!! I was finally able to get it to work, and I am now home...But unfortunately my car goes back to a different stealership, who hopefully can find some gremlin in my steering column...
Anyone with any suggestions?? BTW, I pulled the codes and the only ones current are C1241 - MagnaSteer circuit malfunction and B0361 which is a left actuator feedback short to ground...Thanks for listening!
My poor car, at the dealer, all by its lonesome for who knows how long...

Would love to hear how yours turns out. I've had the 1 mph crawl happen to me twice now since having the recall done. Car's six years old and it's never happened until just after the recall. Sure enough, the wheel won't lock anymore since they removed the locking plate that the pin slides up into, but sitting for 30 minutes waiting for the car to behave like normal sucked. Both times the dealer didn't have time to drive the car around and duplicate the issue.
I was planning on installing this CLB that has arrived at the house while I'm away for work these two weeks, but seeing as it hasn't helped you with yours now I'm not so sure that will solve mine either

I hate to say it, but it sounds like something the dealer should address. I'm not sure if that code relates to the ever popular column lock. Maybe someone else does.

You said dealer took the plate out? Well there could be feedback from the column lock moter still that is telling the car to cut fuel. I think they need to put the solid plate in so that the pin can't come out period and then there is no feedback to the BCM of a locked column.

Interesting thread. I had the recall done and have a CLB and have not had any problems. Recall was done in early October. Have driven the car a bit since then, but nothing extensive. Could be a defective CLB or some other cause. Hope it is not the column lock after all you have done. Keep us posted on what the dealer finds out.

That EXACT same thing happened to me. I wasn't having any problems but since it was a recall, I took my car in anyways.
They did the recall and a few weeks later, I got the lock down. I was pissed. I wasn't having any problems, I shouldn't have done the recall.
Anyways, they come back and tell me that some wires were loose (blah, blah, blah) and charge me a bunch of money.... (got that back too)
ANYWAYS, before I get sidetracked, the point is while I was digging around on my friend's computer (he's a GM tech) there is ANOTHER Technical Service Bulletin related to the column lock that happens often after the original recall/column lock problem is addressed.
If you haven't fixed your car at this point, let me know. I'll go to work and copy the info. I saved it for future needs such as this.

Yes! Please send me any info you have...car is sitting in my garage until Monday when her appt is at the stealership.
fatbillybob - The dealer replaced the whole locking assembly...still had the pin in it...Thats why I dont think its the CLB kit, because with the service column lock msg I was still able to turn the wheel. So the pin was being prevented from engaging.

So let me get this straight; the recall is doing the most damage here by its reflashing of the PCM. If you have the CLB, your column wont lock, but the reflash of the PCM during the recall just screwed your world because it cuts the fuel. Seems to me anybody with the CLB would do well to NOT get the recall done. Otherwise, your CLB is not going to help you after the reflash. We now need a Fuel Lock Bypass (FLB)
