Default GHL's Too Loud Now

With my 01 A4, I had a Magnaflow X-pipe and the GHL Bullets (6" cans).

That was a perfect combo of WOT and idle.

Now my 04 MN6 with just the GHLs is really loud. I didn't put the
X-pipe on (not enough time) and thought I could live with the
"burbling" sound. At highway cruising it is fine but any kind of
acceleration and particularly idling, it borders on obnoxious.

I have to admit that the stock 04 exhaust is far more aggressive
sounding than my 01 stock.

Could there be that much of a difference between the years?

Here's my dilemma...I could try the X-pipe and hope it calms down
some. Will it?

Or I could try the Z06 Ti exhaust. But if I do, will the X-pipe make the
Z06 sound different?

Maybe go back to a Corsa Indy or even God forbid, touring.

Any input guys?

...George

I've got the X-pipe but didn't feel like cutting into last night.

Will this really quiet things down a bit?

I've done this exhaust so many times now I could do it blindfolded.

GeorgeC,
Please keep us posted w/ your exhaust experience.
I am thinking of changing my stock 02 a4 exhaust either to a z06 Ti or the GHL Magnums.
Being its an A4 w/ the standard rear,Iwas told resonance may be an issue at highway speeds.

I just put the GHL bullets on my '99 coupe. Car already had Magnaflow x-pipe installed. Sound is great at idle and WOP, but the "burbling" and "popping" on deceleration can be annoying.

Have you tried the magnum plus, I think that is the best sounding GHL.

It has a little bit larger muffler, which makes it a little quiter but still has the great sound.

WOT What? WOT

I love the pop-n-gurgle when decelorating to a stoplight.

TPIS headers, Random tech X-pipe and GHL Bullet Exhuast. A freind of mine said my car sounds like a big block.

Works for me.

and stock cars ?? Now that is loud.

jerrsvette:

I had zero resonance withe the A4 (3:15 rear) with the GHL/Magna X.

I have no resonance now with the MN6 no X.

I don't expect resonance with the X either.

I don't object at all the deceleration popping. But it is significantly
more pronounced now with an idle that gathers a lot of attention.

I'm going to install the X and see what goes.

I'll let you know.

I will be stopping over at your work on Friday to pick up the GHLs for my baby if for some reason you can't get them to quiet down....

I am glad that I know someone to test out all this stuff before I do it. I already marked hurst shifter off the list...

I'm having some GHL Bullets put on this weekend w/ no x-pipe (too lazy/cheap right now; was all I could do the get GHL's through 'purchasing approval!') on stock 2004 A4 w/ 2:73. We'll see how it sounds. Have some impressions next week...

I like the GHL's. I started to get some burbling after my stage II due to running very rich and it was typicaly worse in the cold months. I do not have an X-pipe.

The funny thing was I have totally forgotten how much better this si than the stock setup. I pulled into the service shop 4 weeks ago. I left my car running when I saw another C5 pull in next to me. His was also running. There was no contest on who's sounded meaner.

I installed the 3.5" Bullets and X-pipe on my 2001 a few weeks ago. It sounds really good, but a tad quieter than I would have thought! I would of tried it without the x-pipe first, but I was a little impatient and didn't want to have to go through an install again. After seeing how easy the install was, I would highly recommend installing them without the x-pipe first. It's a lot harder to remove than to put on later. I'm kind of stuck now, but I do really like the sound.
