Vettes have crummy paint!
I was very upset yesterday.
My Corvette is black. It is completely without swirls. It has been meticulously cared for since it was new and it looks it.
But yesterday I was parked next to a new Jag with black paint and I was astounded at how much brighter and richer looking the paint on the Jag was compared with my paint.
I'm going to do the clay bar, polish, glaze routine but frankly, I really don't see being able to make my paint look like that of the jag and it really bothers me.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. Sure, if I had all the money in the world, I would like a custom paint job. Unfortunately I don't so I guess the factory paint job will have to do. Besides I don't think my Nassau Blue looks all that bad.

been a known fact for long time that GM paint usually isnt up to the same standards as most foreign cars....same goes for interior quality, fit and finish, quietness, well u get the idea. GM is GM and aint nothing we can do about it.

Actually, my Corvette has the best paint of any car I've owned. Going backwards, I've had a black Camry (dull), a green Mitsubishi 3000 GT (splotchy, pitted), a blue Maxima (very bad), a red Nissan 200SX (the wost of the bunch), and a '71 Monte Carlo (terrible).
Maybe I was just lucky with my Vette.

Don't let it bother you...if you really want a paint job like a new Jaguar then go buy a New Jaguar...period

First, they're right. The quality of paintjobs on a foreign car is definitely better than that of american cars.
However, don't be too hard on judging the color. I'll give you an example. Code 17 for GM is one of their black colors. Just in that paintcode, there is PRIME (the main color that all variances are compared to) and 7 VARIANCES. Each variance is described in relation to PRIME. Point is, they could be described as milky, brown, vivid, more red, more black, more blue, etc, etc...
The point I'm making (and I don't think very well..lol) is even within the same paint code, some look better than others. When black paint is mixed up, it usually consists of 5-7 tints.... red, black, white, yellow, blue, etc, etc... Everytime you add any amount of any color to make up black, it loses it's "blackness".
Some blacks (eg, Honda black) is really black... it consists of very little tints. Of course, Honda only makes one black... that is on an NSX... the rest aren't black, they are usually pearl blacks.
Anyway, as long as your car is free of swirls, it'll look good but never be as "black" as some other colors.
Mark
PS. If you can get your hands on some called 3M "fillnglaze", it's pink and looks like pepto bismol. It'll really make a BIG difference before applying wax.

Is it just me, or does the clear coat scratch way to easy on the Vette.

I really can't complain about the paint job on my pewter car. Yes, it has some orange peel, but it still looks better than many others out there.

White has always been my color of choice in a car that I want to 'display' body lines. Though some of my absolute favorite cars from this forum are black. It's natural to see the green grass on the other side, but those moments are short lived since you have to know that had the jaguar owner walked out he'd have been mentally kicking himself for giving in to his 'feminine' side when he made his purchase.

Can't complain about my MSG paint on my 2003 vert. Most all panels are like glass.Get tons of compliments on the color. But most high end foreign cars do have great paint jobs. LT

Absolutely! My '04 has the softest clearcoat I've ever had on a car.
But then again, I suppose that's why Vettes cost only 50 grand and not twice that.
