I have found the cure, my wife. she is having problems with me buying the aluminum pedal set, so what is going to happen when I go for the halltech, Hurst, Lloyds mats, X-pipe, etc.?

Say that you bought the items as a present for Zilla and that you are going to test out the items before going them to me.

also look her in the eye and say "Honey I am a giver!!! if giving is wrong I don't want to be right"

I have the same problem. Usually my wife has something to say about me buying mods to the car. Its getting tougher to get her to go along.

Do what I do, buy Cruises and other vacation delights. That's the deal, she gets a trip, I get my mods. Hmmmm, no wonder I don't have much money for mods...

Don't try to hide it from her because it will come to bite you later. My wife left for a week and I got online saying that I could buy MODS and get them installed before she got home and she would never notice - kind of joking about it.

Anyway after she came home I was outside and she was on the computer and happen to see the thread that I started. Boy did I have a ton of explaining of why I would try to hide something from her and she wanted to know what Mods I got (I did not order any).

Of course I am one of the lucky ones where my wife does not care what I do to the Vette so I have no real reason to hide my purchases.

The best way to get them is to let her see all the comments here in the forum of why people are making the Mod that you want and hopefully she will understand more.

I figure that I have spent over $2K on mods since February and I said I wasn't going to do anything to this car until it was paid for...

Deliver items to work address; subtle mods usually can be slipped past the wife! Two weeks ago, my noisy Hurst got me busted. Didn't have time to quiet the rattle before our "date". I am currently trying to figure out how to upgrade the stereo without her knowing since she said that if I touched that in this car she'd kill me. I got the car so I wouldn't "stray" and she acts like it is another woman! If changing out an inferior stock item is the worst we ever do, I can live with that!

I have found that expensive jewelry eases her pain about my mods. Yes, everything costs twice as much

What do I do? I wonder what it would be like to be single again without nagging or being planned into every thing SHE wants to do. Why can't she just go entertain herself while I do my thing in the garage is beyond me and it should not COST me anything (cruises, jewerly, furniture, etc) She makes her own money and I never tell her how to spend it but wait a minute if I decide to buy a mod. Yes, sometimes she can be great. I posted on here recently where she actually saved the vette from being sold because she was unemployed and found a job as I was trading in my dream car. My desire for this car came along way before she did. Guess I am a little bitter at the moment but life would just be simpler if it were me, myself, and I. Pretty self centered but I really didn't get married to become a servant to others and constantly have to pick up after her children and schedule my time around hers. Don't get me wrong, I know there are family men/women out there that thrive on it. I am definitely NOT one of them. Ahhhh, I feel better. Now, who can I have my GHL's sent to. Can't send them to the neighbor's, they too have big mouthed wives. Got find a single guy. Have fun people, I am all done ranting and feel much better. Time to drop the top and spin the tires.

Jim

Hey Jim,
Sounds like you need a LONG ride ALONE! Drop the top, put on some Led Zepplin and go cruising around the parking lots of the nearest college!

Being divorced and having no kids helps - like me

Seriously, I went through the same thing - I gave up my heavily modded Mercedes (as in Chevy Big Block modded!) for my now ex-wife and her kids and it wasn't worth it in the long run.

I know that there must be women out there that are smart enough to realize that a car obsession is completely harmless and can be a lot of fun for them as well if they get into the swing of things.

Sadly I was not married to one of those women.

Yeah, I'm a bit bitter - so I bought a 01 Vette and now I don't have to answer to anyone anymore.

Life can be good.

Where are all of the sensible women?

My .02 cents worth

I've been married for 34 years so this is alot of experience talking.
No. 1 If you want to get a nice exhaust system, pick put the most expensive one you can find. Tell her how great it is, and that it's really to costly, but you would like to have it. Next, over the period of a week keep reminding her about the exhaust system and that it's expensive. Here is the important part. Next, mention that so and so has almost the same system for about half of the cost., and that would be a real bargain. Oh please honey, look at all the money we would save buy getting the real cheap one. Which is the one you want in the first place. This also works good with shotguns, handgun, anything that would be considered toys.
It's a tough world and you just have to out smart them.
No. 2 Just get on your hands and knees and beg. That's the one that work for me.
