I helped my buddy install his last Friday. He and I had no clue what the heck we were doing, other than to follow the directions, and it took us one hour, with (and here's the best part!)no parts left over, everything works, and nothing was broken, cut or maimed!

Try installing only the soft inner springs and two turns in on the adjusters - remember your Loctite. It made the neutral to 1 shift soooo much easier. I tried the light inner/outer combo and the light outer alone - both setups were still too stiff.
I can almost make a normal shift from 4 to 5, and 5 to 6 doesn't leave you in 4th at 70mph. Be careful to steer right of the gate going from 4 to 5, otherwise, hello 4!
Now, shift *****...are you old school or modern? I chose the white Hurst ball - $29.95+shipping from www.unlimitedspeed.com
Very worthwhile project...Have fun...Bill

I installed mine 2 days ago with the light outer & inner springs with 1 3/4 turns and it is still pretty stiff! I may try what you did with the 1 inner spring! The install is extremely simple though. Use this link for instructions as they are very thorough: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c5/pat...rInstall.shtml

If you really want to get crazy and make the install even cleaner, try this mod for a shift boot. http://www.z06vette.com./forums/show...threadid=47409
I ordered the shift boot from Jegs, punched the screws as suggested and even followed the camper tape idea to seal the bottom (although any thick single side adhesive would have worked).
It makes a really clean, final installation. The only real drawback is, to adjust the shifter springs, you have to take the console and face plate off to get the boot off. In my case, only one extra time off, and it really did take less than 5 minutes the second time.
One final suggestion...if you drop anything in the tunnel, blow it out with your air compressor! You'll spend a bunch of time fishing around for it with little/no luck. Don't ask how I know!
Have fun...Bill

I unfortunately experienced this one before reading this (dropped an Allen Wrench) but was able to fish it out (with some growning and expletives)
