I've got the CLB installed, but I plan to take it back off, get the recall done, then put it back on. I want it done for documentation purposes and my car has no special programming done to it. Besides, my dealer has done good work on my car.

Right now I am leaning towards letting the dealer do it. The local dealer has some good Vette techs that work on the Scottsdale Corvette Club. Always scary to let them touch it.

My dealer has a bunch of bungling dopes workin' there.
I've had the bypass in for almost 4 years...I've filed the recall notice for now.
Almost forgot to mention the name of the bungling dealership that resulted in a trip to the paint booth for my car. Paul Massey Chevrolet in East Providence, RI.

Along with the colum lock comes an improved knock detection routine and a fix for the gas guage readings.

Recalls expire at some point and that could hurt you when it comes time to sell the car. I know if I were buying a used car I'd wwant to know "if have all the recalls been applied"?

CLB ordered. Had too many negative experiences with dealers (one in particular ended up costing 66 hours of rework) to even entertain the idea of taking it in. Had my mind made up long before the recall came out.
If I can do it - it'll get done. If I can't - it won't.

I got mine done
I took the car in at 8:am and was done by 9:am. It was not bad because the mechanic already did so many lately that He could do it in His sleep. On My 1998 automatic He just removed the pin and replaced the wire harness with part # 88952427 K 2.195 so now it is done.
From what I was told, Every C-5 Corvette ever sold is going to be re-called for this fix.
The 97's and 98's did not have the problem as bad as the 2000 and later seem to have. I never had any problem with my steering wheel ever locking up. I would suggest getting it done because if You do not You would be responsable if involved in an accident caused by not doing A reasonable request on A safty issue.

Normally I would agree; however, there is not a single documented instance of an incident caused by the column not unlocking and someone driving away in that condition. Additionally, the so called "fix" for the MN6 does not prevent the column from locking - only shuts off the fuel to the engine when it does lock.
What's the difference if driving at 60 mph and the column locks and the engines shuts off or not? Probably "safer" to have the engine running - at least you'd have power brakes.
No recall for me - install CLB.
