Default Need help. Never thought this would happen to me.....

Hello group. Got a dreaded dealer mishap

Quick setup:
Car's A/C was on the fritz on Friday so I take in. Turns out the compressor has a leak However my new Warranty Direct will cover replacement but not the cleaning of the condenser

Anyway, They can't fix it until Tuesday (got to get the part in) I say cool I'll come and get it because
A) I don't want to leave it over the weekend
B) I don't want to leave it over the weekend
C) I don't want to leave it over the weekend
D) I don't want to leave it over the weekend
E) It was going to be 80+ I wanted to drive.
F) All of the above
Sales Tech says no problem he will make the arrangements to let me come in the next morning (Saturday) to pick it up.

I pick it up and the Active Handling light comes on and the DIC says it's warming up. I find that odd since it was 70+ outside it eventually went out. I get home and then the check engine light comes on. I go WTF?
I start checking gauges, look under the car for leaks. Finally, I open the hood........

The MAS and my Donaldson Blackwing and other assorted parts are missing!!!! :mad :mad !!!

My heart just sank into the depths of despair. I get on the phone and leave a message to the dealer for Monday.

Now here's where I need help/advice.
What kind of damage has been done? Potentially.
What would you suggest I do about this in order to stay on top of the situation? I already have a voice mail from the dealer admitting fault.

Thanks

I would suggest you dont lose that voice mail...I would get it on tape backup as well...

Ive seen alot of people post that leaving their car at some dealerships has cause them to lose ( have partd stolen from their car ). you take the car off the lot and its on you.. although it would be impossible for you to drive your car with the mass air sensor and the blackwing missing..

I agree. One guy may admit fault, but some district manager might say the opposite. If you've got the tape, you should be covered. Sometimes you have to play hardball.

Just had my secretary transcribe it and make a tape of it. The just dealer called and told me that I could drive it in and there should be no problems since the engine is still relatively protected unless I drive through some dust storm or rain.

I'd say that unless you sucked in a lot of dust, you should be OK. I would still out the dealer's service department over this.

I don't think I would drive it to the dealer without some sort of protection over the inlet just in case some garbage gets sucked in.

Dude, put a helmet on that soldier before sending him back out to do battle with the elements! Get some sort of filter material tightly secured between the outside air and the intake.

If I understand correctly, the MAF and Blackwing are at the dealership, right? I'd go get them, or better yet have them bring them to you and put them on.

I wouldn't drive it without them

Good Luck

Were the parts stolen, or did they just forget to put them back on?

What a frickn joke! I am sorry this happened to you. I try to stay positive and not to much but this is just plain down right this is why some people refer to them as "Stealership" I mean sure ok I understand they are a business too and have to make money,,but for gods sake. I think it's funny to watch them scramble when they F up...because when it's not clearly theyre fault..they are great at right out of it!

Good luck on getting this resolved and
ps- I didn't think the car could run without the MAF sensor

if it's not a long trip, you can use a clean sock or like somebody else mentioned pantyhose ... i prefer the sock method as pantyhose may be too fine.

if it's more than say 10 miles, i'd get a ride up there and go retrieve the parts ...

either way, don't forget your 2x4, so you can smack the tech who was in a rush to get out the door friday afternoon ... man I hate GM Service Departments.

best of luck.

I,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,would have them flat bed the car back to the dealer! I would hate to have them say, " we screwed up but,,, you drove the car back without a filter!
Ahhhh, and YES you can drive the car without the MAF! It will be in the "Limp Home Mode" but it will get you back to the dealer! You will have a LOT less power and the check engine light will be on!

I do not think much damage was done to your eng unless it was real dusty out when you drove it without a filter.

Either way. DOCUMENT the problem and have the dealer Document it too, just incase there IS an issue in the future!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

The tech had left for the day and had already started the work and did not know I was picking it up.
