New Carbon Fiber Hood
Im trying out a new CF Hood on my Hardtop. It's made by VIS and it's a heat extractor-type hood. It has an intake scoop in front (like a Maranello) and exit ports on 2 sides (like a C5R). It has the option of covering the vents in case of rain, but since my car is a good-weather car, I am going to screen it to match my Z06 screens.
Here are some pics:
I am also looking for a place to paint it and since it is Carbon Fiber, I am thinking of ghost flames - flames are unpainted to show CF weave and the rest will be painted. It's good I have a black C5 or that paint scheme won't work.
It is not a high rise hood, so it wont clear a Magnuson which was my original plan. I plan to get an A&A modified Single Intercooler Procharger by year's end since i already got smogged and passed.

It was not really my first choice since I was planning to do an intercooled magnuson for my final mod (thinking of a C6!). The light weight of carbon fiber appeals to me and since I got the hood for cheap, I decided to try it till I go forced induction.
I'll see how it is prepped and painted to match the car, then I probably will keep it as a garage ornament if ever I get tired of it. I mounted the OEM hood in the garage and it beats any poster out there.
I am yet to take the plastic liner and do a spirited run and see how cool it keeps the under hood temp. My C5 runs at 189 F normally with the Tstat and reprogrammed fan.
The only thing I saw when I visited VIS was an OEM hood and a cowl induction one that probably would clear the Magnuson.

I kind of have to wonder if the aftermarket CF hood is designed to not chop your head off during a front-end collision, as the stock CF hood is. Hmmmm...

The more I sit here and look at it, the more it kind of grows on me. Would I get one, probably not. I like my Motor City Mold hood. But one thing is for sure, it is a hood that you just don't see everyday right now.

So, anyone? Where can I find a web-site that sells this fine piece of Corvette kit??
Did a search for ViS on the net, and came up with loads of stuff, but mostly for Hondas...?

Surely ViS must have their own website?
Anyone??

How was the fit on the hood? How many hours was spent getting it to fit properly?

Fit and finish was great, I expected that much from VIS. It took me (and a friend) around 1 hour to take out and install the new hood. I closed it and all the gaps lined out fine.
I need to paint it still. Zaino and a carbon fiber hood makes for a blinding glare when Im running westward during sunset. The sun reflects on it and you cant use your visor to block it.
