Top Speed?!?
Hello!
Does anyone know how fast you can go with the original gears? (Corvette Z06, Axle ratio 3.42)
My Vette has 540 RWHP (Vortech supercharged).
The fastest speed i have driven was 150 mph.
I think that the car goes about 200 mph or faster.
(the 6th gear is long) (original gear, axle 3,42)
Who knows the top speed!!
Thanks for your infos.
Greetings,
Horst

What gear were you in when doing the 150 MPH?

I think around 177 in 5th, but w/ the blower I'm sure it's going to be higher!

Re: Top Speed?!? (Dr.Ron)
Without changing either the rear axle ratio, or the gearbox ratios, you are limited to a top speed of about 171 MPH.
In 5th, at 171 (approx) the engine is at red line. Whether you have 400 HP or 700 HP, the top speed in 5th will be the same. You may get there faster in your car than I can (mine is basically stock Z06), but once the engine is at red line, that's it.
You may have enough power to get the car to a higher speed in 6th gear, but it is a tall gear, and I don't know if, even with your car, you can push it much past 170 MPH in 6th gear either.
Bottom line, only 3 ways to exceed the 170 MPH (approx) top speed of a stock Z06
1) raise the red line (at least new cams and valve springs, alter PCM)
2) change the gearing
3) WAY more HP to allow you to use 6th gear to achieve your top speed. The theoretical (red line) limit in 6th gear is about 270 MPH .... but I'm not sure the Goodyear tires would be very happy at that speed!!

I changed the rev limiter to 7,100 RPMs and the car will go 182-184 MPH.

Re: Top Speed?!? (hms1977)
How did you change the revlimiter to 7,100 rpm?

I wouldnt recommend doing that. I have mine set at 7000 but thats on a built NA motor. NO reason to run a stock s/c motor above 6500.
Your top speed is likely the same as a stock Z06. I seriously doubt you are making enough power to pull 6th gear.
Actually going to 3.90 or 4.10 gears will increase your top speed because you will be able to pull a considerable amount of rpm in 6th gear.

Re: Top Speed?!? (hms1977)
Why don't you set the rev limiter to 10,000 RPM and then let us know at what speed/rpm the engine blew up at ????
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Top Speed?!? (hms1977)
Hypertech computer upgrade will allow you to up the rev limit at 100 RPM intervals. I like it because you will feel the stock motor fall off at about 6700 and shift. I am not worried about going a few hundred RPMs over 6500 with these motors. I would not run a stock motor at 7000 for long periods of time. I do have years of experience shifting by engine feel but it is easy to learn. If the motor did pop it is very simple to reset the factory computer and take it to a dealer. My 03 has 27,000 miles on it an I am getting ready to put the third set of tires on it. I don't drag race or road race it! I do like the performance. I have had no engine problems and I have had a 01 and 02 and now an 03. I have an 05 Z06 on order.
The Hypertech unit also allows you to run the motor cooler with a 160 degree thermostat. You should change the oil frequently when running the engine hard. Never take the motor over about 3,000 RPMs until the oil temp is at least 150. Don't miss shifts! Missed shifts will kill any motor.
Good luck.

with 540 RWHP you will go over 200 and I think you will pull 6th gear. My HC 450 RWHP ran to 189. I didn't shift to 6th because the air coupler blew off. The traction control came on as it was a rough road.

Re: Top Speed?!? (John Shiels)
This weekend was a testdrive-weekend!
I decided to go to Germany on the highway! (there is sometimes no speed limit!!!)
It was straight route, no other car in sight and a little bit tail wind.
I was going at top 214 mph. :flag

Horst, I hope you have tires other than the Goodyear tires shipped with the car ... they are speed rated to 183 MPH .... you're playing with fire at 214 with the stock tires.

Re: Top Speed?!? (BlackZ06)
Yes, I have.
I have CCW-rims and Pirelli PZero Rosso on it.
front 275/30/19
rear 305/30/19
It´s a great feeling to go 214 mph. (a little bit nervous!)
Greetings,
Horst
