No matter how far away you park
No matter how far or remote you park, Always seems to be that very special person that will park right next to you. :banghead:
Calling any member who is into the physiology business, if you could shed some light on this type of phenomena or just for fun can we all think of a name to classify this type of person, besides the few names that quickly come to mind :steering: :beatdeadhorse: :steering:

Happens to me all the time. :mad :banghead: It's like people must say to themselves, "Oh. This guy must really care about his car a lot. I'll park next to him because I know he won't hit it or ding it on the way out." Probably makes a lot of sense, and I've done it a few times myself. But it's still darn annoying.

actually, I have thought a lot about this. It's pure laziness. it's easier to park next to an object, like a Z06, then to negotiate parking lines with no other vehicle around. Think back to driving school. They taught you to drive around obstacles(pylons), and to parallel park BETWEEN cars, not between lines.
I think it's a subconcious thing that their minds instantly take the easy way out and park next to another car. i've been trying to avoid other cars in the parking lot my whole life, and that's the answer I've come to.
Now what I want to know is how those darn shopping carts can find your car when you are parked in the back 40..........

Re: No matter how far away you park (ZO6Lee)
Last Sat. night I went to dinner at a fancy french bistro in town, parking lot full of the latest Benz, Beemer, Lexus, etc..
I found my spot, driver side protected and far away from the pack of euro toys.
Of course after dinner, there is one car parked tightly against my passenger door, a new SL 600. The only two cars this far out. I had to back out in order to open the door for my wife, and I don't know how he even got his door open with out banging my car, but he left no marks.
Still though... :mad
I want to believe he just wanted to check out the Vette... I want to believe that...

Been there, done that. If you have to park next to a car, pick out a 4 door sadan. There doors are shorter then the coupe cars.

Part of the problem is i believe that most people view their cars as just a thing that transports them from one spot to another. They probably have never even given a thought about trying to avoid dings. Much less avoiding slamming their doors into other cars.
My method of self defense is.... if, when i leave the house in the morning, and know that i will be going to a place where parking is tight, i leave my Vette at home! :seeya

It appears it doesn't matter what you do... it's human nature.

The same day I brought my new Z home (this past Monday) my wife and I took it to dinner that evening. We got there early and there was NOT ONE SINGLE car in the entire parking lot when we got there.. Not one! Sure enough, the only car that pulled in while we were there parked right next to me! :mad Some old lady gets out and all I could do was hope and pray she didn't touch my car. She didn't. Some people just have no clue.

i hate that.....sometimes i think of it as guys "issueing the challenge"...maybe not directly challenging to drag race, but just to say to u..."your car is no better than mine"....when i would drive my vette to school (college)....there was a ridiculously huge parking lot....id park so far back, there wouldnt be anyone with 30-40yds. then i'd be walking back to me car and guess what?...about 50% of the time i'd have a WRX or Eclipse or something like that in a spot right next to me. now tell me they arent trying to make a statement.

I don't know what physiology has to do with it, but a psychologist, psychiatrist or psychoanalyst might help these people. Have you ever heard of the "herd instinct"? Some people are leaders, some are followers! You are clearly a leader but not a linguist.
I, too, try to park in an out of way place. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When there are LOTS of spaces sometimes I park right on a line and take two spaces. This usually works!

Re: No matter how far away you park (03QuicksilverZ06)
My .02
The Z is a pretty unique automobile. I have only seen a handful since I bought mine and only one red one. I've only seen 2 that were actually parked.
Maybe people see a car like the Z and are simply curious. I've even had a regular C5 park next to me when I've purposely parked far away.

I hear ya! I think they get pissed off and want to bust stones so.......they nuzzle right up next to it. They don't understand, I'm not trying to showw off, just keep others from messing it up!

LOL..I usually get one of my buddies to park his truck next to my z06 at work.
Parking spaces are 3 per segment in our parking garage with concrete pillars separating each segment. We both park so that our cars are the only two that will fit in that segment. Cheap insurance for both of us :hurray:

I think the people in the WRX or ecslipe are fellow car enthusiasts, and figure since you own a z06 you must be an enthusiast as well, and thus will treat their cars with the same respect they gave you.
Just an idea.

It is no doubt due to the fact that they are hopping some of the greatness of the Corvette rubs off on their car while it's parked there. It's an American icon, and real Americans like to associate with it.
