Complaints about my new Z06 after four days of ownership...
1. The antennae mast - it's a diversion. It looks silly. I unscrewed it and
placed it in the trunk. It will never be back on my car!
That's it!
I only have about 160 miles on it. And, of course, I've been adhering to the
recommended break in procedure. Despite not being able to "drive" it yet,
I can already tell this car is everything I ever wanted in a sports car. I'm so
glad I made the decision to get a Z06. I'm overwhelmed, and I know I
haven't seen anything yet. Just wanted to give my $.02. Thanks.

Don't feel bad about the antenna thing because all Corvette owners have or develop their own set of unique behavioral eccentricities. For example:
(1) I never let the tank go below 1/2 full (keeps both fuel pumps totally submerged at all times).
(2) To date, I have been very successful at using only 93 Octane fuel (I am sure this will become much more difficult as most have already changed to 92 ocatane as their highest grade).
(3) All service (including oil changes and filter changes every few hundred miles) is dealer performed... and, to date, the same dealership has been used for all service.
(4) Hand-washed only, no high-pressure spray allowed. No automated car wash allowed.
.... trust me, this list is far more lengthy than we want to cover here <G>.
again, don't worry too much about keeping your radio antenna in the trunk. Me, I have a CD of favorite Corvette-Drivin' music that I would rather listen to anyway.
regards,
dave

Totally agree!
I second the motion on the Z06. I have had mine for two days and because of work schedule I have never driven it in the daylight yet.. I have been taking it out in the evening trying to put some miles on and get a feel for it. So far it is surpassing my every expectation although I have been babying it of course. It just feels so awesomly powerful compared to my 02 coupe.
Everytime I open my garage door and look at it (Black on black chrome rims) in there, it is SO beautiful it takes my breath away! I will take some pic's this weekend weather permitting.

Congrats on the new car! Of course the switch to a fixed antenna was a weight-savings measure on the Z since the power antenna assembly is heavier. A lot of owners have switched back to the power unit. A search here will turn up some ideas in that regard. You may also opt for the shorty antenna that comes in black or colors. Welcome aboard!

There are shorty antennaes available. I'm using one that I think is a bout 12" long. I hardly notice it all.

I have ordered the power antenna from GM Parts Direct along with the bracket and will be installing both once they arrive. The fixed mast that came with the car (new '04 Z06) will take its rightful place in storage. I can always use it again if necessary.
By the way, the car, in my opinion, is awesome. I have a little over 400 miles on it and am taking it easy based on the manufacturer's recommendation for the first 500 miles. After 500 miles, it will still be driven with care and I will adhere to all maintenance requirements as I do for all my vehicles.
Godspeed!!

The Antenna is gone, I replaced mine with a shorty aluminum polished. Matches my SS letters, and I think looks alot better

I made my shorty antenna.
Cost: $0
Time: 10-20 minutes.
Looks: Better than some of those ones that cost $20-$30.

Great idea racer44.
Do you think it would be possible to solder or braze the ball on there?

Break in, smeak in......just drive it. My break in period was 14 miles and it's been redline ever since!

I just cut mine down, couldn't get the ball back on. No problems here. I just painted the cut end. I think it's like 8 or 9" long now...the antenna also. :lolg:

Somebody once posted a method to remove the external antenna completely and make it an internal job.
I don't remember if they had reception problems.

Nope, dosent bother me.
Someone made a comment to me about how it seems stupid on such a nice car. The "they did it to save weight" comment seems to put them in their place every time :smash:

Yeah, when he said he measured 8" and then cut it off something came to mind to use for the measurement :reddevil
