Default Michelin Pilot Sport 5

I've been running Michelin run flat tires on my C5s since 2001. They've gone by different models/editions along the way, but I've been wanting to try some non-runflats now (on my 2003 50th Anniv. Edition). My original TPMS sensors are starting to fail (21 years.. not a bad run) so figured now would be a good time to get all new sensors and do the swap to new tires. I looked on Discount Tires and found Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires. There were basically no reviews on the 5s on their site. I googled a bit, but really never found any good reviews. I spoke with the guy at Discount and he recommended the 5s, though they are having to have them shipped to their store and will take several days. Anyone running PS 5's? A better choice than the A/S 4? Note: I live in Houston and only drive in good weather conditions. Main thing I'm looking for is a less harsh ride and reduced road noise compared to my A/S 3 ZP tires I have now. Of course, a bit better traction for the rears wouldn't hurt either.

I believe the PS 5s are brand new to the scene. Most have the 4Ss

Just try a summer only tire, Bridgestone, General, Hankook, nitto, Firestone. Doesn’t matter, they all grip about the same. Carry a small electric compressor. If a catastrophic blow out happens a run flat won’t matter anyway.

The 5 is new this year, what size did you get? I looked for the C5 on TireRack and they don't have the 5 in stock 17/18 C5 size.

17/18. It shows backordered on their website. But the dude at the local Discount Tire said he could get fronts and rears from two other locations but will take a few days. I could just go with the A/S 4 tires but I'm not in any hurry. Just want what's best.

Why would you want all season tires if you live in a place without winter and only drive in good weather? Seems like your situation is made for summer tires.

I run the Pilot Sport 4S and love them. The 5S is most likely just their latest revision of the same tire. You'll find the 4S has very positive reviews. Be aware they are warm season tires.

Okay. Just a follow up on the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. I did have them installed and they are my first non-run flats on a Corvette for me since 2001 (first for a c5 for me). So! Let me say that my initial impressions, in comparison to my 8 year old run flats, are quite favorable. The ride is dramatically improved. The seams in the road and other surface defects are absorbed nicely and the car feels like it is just gliding down the road. Road noise is also very much improved. My exhaust is now the loudest part of the ride, as it should be. The noise tone, besides being quieter, has a deeper/softer quality to it. And I have gotten on the throttle a bit with them and they grip the road like crazy! My run-flats were easy to break loose and have the back end dance around a bit. These tires give a better sense of confidence that they'll hold the road on take off for sure.
