How long have everyone's fuel pump lasted before it has failed?
Just looking for some answers to maybe about mileage and amount of years that the fuel pump has lasted before it finally gave out...maybe a story about an incident when it did go out...I know there are alot of super low mileage cars and some high mileage ones as well. Just looking for some input...Thanks

Curious as to what the most common signs or indications that a C5 Corvette fuel pump is starting to fail. I'm the original owner of my 2004 convertible with about 30K miles so always watching out for stuff starting to break mostly due to the age of the OEM components.

I've had my 2003 since 2005 and have never had a problem with the FP. I try to never let the fuel get below 1/4 tank in all of my vehicles and when it gets close I always drive easily around curves until I find fuel available. Sime of mine have FP outside the tank and some inside the tank. Those inside the tank require submersed in the fuel to keep cool. They are the ones that can go bad with continously low fuel. Besides, low fuel allows larger air volume in the tank to condense moisture adding water to the bottom of the tank pickup, especially with a cold front passage. That is the reason pilots always drain a little fuel from the tanks before a flight. Try to keep the vehicles topped off.

The original still works in the 130,000 mile '98 and it's seen a lot of lot miles with almost empty tanks (ran out twice) but the fuel filters have been changed four times and now it's kept at half full to full.

My 2000 has 124,000 on it on the original pump. I have only owned the car a year and a half however it was my dad's car from new, and he meticulously saved every receipt from every service with nothing about a fuel pump replacement.

Actually, having only understood this from high performance shops I just did a search on the models with external pumps but haven't found a definitive answer. So maybe, maybe not. I know there are some vehicles that have gravity feed from bottom of tank to FP located underneath the tank. I had to replace one on a mercedes SL just last summer.

From my experience the pumps themselves rarely fail but the gauges that are part go them are the main point of issues.
The only one I have seen fail was a very low mile car that the pump was gummed up from sitting for so many years.

My 2003 vert has 160K on the clock and the fuel pump still works. BUT my tuner told me that it was failing because it doesn't deliver 55 psi at WOT. So I'm looking to get a new pump, but still driving it in the mean time. Like others, I've had problems with the fuel gauge, which is part of the system, but Techron has always fixed that problem!

My 02 59K miles now on it with the original Fuel Pump and was fine but when I had the SC installed, I swapped out the fuel filter and had the fuel pump booster added to support the fuel needed for the added boost. I figured I wanted to know my filter was good, one less variable. If you start to see fuel pressure issues, first place I'd check if no clear leaks in the system. They are ~60bucks and easy to install with simple pressure fitting removal tool and a 10mm for one bracket bolt if I remember correct. Go have fun on your trip and enjoy the car. Even new cars break down sometimes!

I don't have all that many miles on my C-5, but the car is 23 years old....with 30K on the odometer.
