How long have everyone's fuel pump lasted before it has failed?

142,000 miles, 20 years. All good, so far....

Look at the build sticker on your glove box door. If you have RPO FFS, that means that both your fuel pump and the fuel filter are mounted inside the fuel tank. This was a running change made in the 2003 MY. Removing the fuel tanks is not a particularly fun job, so you are probably better off not fooling with it unless you have a specific need to go there ... or unless the rear of the car is already apart and you have a gazillion miles on the vehicle.

My '99 FRC has 472,xxx miles (as of this morning), and it is still on the original fuel pump and original fuel filter. It's pretty impressive how durable the original pumps are in these cars.

Anecdotal and YMMV, but in my over 24 years of driving, I've never had to replace a fuel pump in any of the cars I've owned. My wife's cars either. Tanks are run down to 1-2 gallons almost every single time. I think the whole "don't let your fuel level get too low or your pump will die" thing is blown way out of proportion.

Just based on the posts, sounds like the original fuel pump is a pretty hardy part.

You have a greater shot of losing a hose, belt or use up brake pads than losing a pump.
cgange the oil, filter fuel filter, check the belts, hoses, test the brake fluid for moisture, check the pads and antifreeze. Then go have fun.
