Default 99 convertable rear window blew out in carwash

Hi,Looking to get a plexi-glass replacement for my rear convertable glass window. Glues rarely work to to reatatch glass to top.Im going to drill holes in the plexiglass and rivit or bolt it to the rubber ring where the glass window attached., the rubber ring is very strong and will stop the bolts from ripping the canvas.Brass bolts should look realy good against the black top. Any suggestions?

Dont cheapen your car with a plexiglass rear window. Also, I call BS on the glue not holding!! I used 3M Window Weld back 10 years ago, in 2014. This was 10 years/52,000 miles ago, and the stuff is still OEM quality, or better. Heard of failures with Rhino glue. Careful prep, and 3M WW=success!! Be advised-3M WW is some of the nastiest, stickiest crap I've ever used on anything. Brake parts cleaner will cut it if you make a mistake. Just be careful. Also, if you get it on your fingers, it will have to wear off.....

Why not give this a try before drilling holes?

Klipsch, having the rear window of my C5 soft top vert become detached, and the use of Rhino glue would only last one season, I considered doing what you are considering using plexi-glass to permanently attach to the soft top. Then I read where others have used 3M Window Weld glue and got good results. So, this past fall I did the 3M procedure that included using the 3M Single Step Primer. So far, the window has held. Since my C5 is outside 24/7/12, the test will be in the summer when the 3M glue is subject to the interior and exterior heat. My chemical engineer neighbor opines that most glues available to the public will degrade after continued heat exposure. If it fails, your fix is next on my list.

Hi, I tried that kind of glue on test pieces..the rubber and the glass were so tight air couldnt get in to dry the glue.even overnight. still wet like it was still in the bottle .I had a little better luck with 2 part epoxy but yet that didnt last too long on my test pieces. Probably too smooth..thanks for the video .though.

There have been a number of threads posted on this issue in the past and the use of a glue has seemed to work well. A search should turn up some hits, but right now the search feature may not work properly - it is a problem that the forum’s tech staff are working to resolve.

Default Rhino Glue

I reglued mine bout 4.5 yrs ago. Cant tell it ever came loose. Carwash is a big no-no on the verts. Gotta take ur time, get er clean, take ur time and rig up a way to keep constant pressure on

the glass. I let it cure bout 5 days.

I fixed mine much the same way you did. But I used 3M Window Weld. This was 10 years/52,000 miles ago. Still good. BTW-I have taken my 2000 C5 thru the car wash many times. Some car washes can keep the top brush up, suspended above the convertible top. I've never had a problem. Original 24 yo top, 1 rear window re-glue. I have also found the biggest problem with automatic car washes is how low our cars sit. Not all Corvettes will clear all car wash wheel guides, so use caution......

Because instead of forking out $1,200, or more, for a new top, I fixed my window for under $25. Rest of the top is fine.....
