Why is my center console 12v outlet power connector from everyone else's?
Here is mine
Here is what all of the other ones I've found look like.
I got this car with no 12v outlet in the center console. Bought one, the connectors are different. My connector looks different from all of the others ones I've seen, and doesn't fit the outlet. I don't see any butt connectors or evidence that the original was cut off and swapped for a different connector, and I don't see any other connectors under the center console pieces. What am I missing here?!

Man, you have me on that one. Don't recall seeing a connector like that on any of the C5s I had.

Interesting!
What year is your car?
Are you able to look up the line a little further to see if someone spliced it in as a generic replacement for a dead lighter plug power outlet at some point?

Do the different wire colors, orange+black versus yellow+black indicate maybe that's not what you think it is? Just a guess, don't have a C5

what does your power point socket look like? does it have 2 or three pins?

It's a 99, and it's un-spliced all the way back to the OEM (taped) loom so I believe it's original.

Seems bizarre, Canadian perhaps? Can you do a voltage test? The stock 12v socket is "always hot" so if it were "switched-power" that might mean it was for something else? You could just crimp on two small spade connectors to slide on the socket contacts & power it up.

I think it would work with the factory 12v socket. The 2 contacts are arranged in the same location, just doesnt have the extra ports. The one you bought is different because its probably not made for a C5. Interesting you didn't have the OEM socket. I have never seen a C5 without one. I'll aso say GM used a lot of different suppliers. When I needed a new A/C hard line, I contacted Vettenuts. Marc sent me 2 or 3 of them, all for C5s(!), and all different. I finally sent him a pic of mine, and his C5Z06 had an identical one!! They all worked on the C5s they came off of, but obviously had different manufacturers.

Well, the car originally came with an 12v outlet there but the previous owner let an 800 lb gorilla do some interior work so there's quite a bit that's broken/missing/misinstalled now that I'm cleaning up. The one I bought was listed as c5 corvette center console 12v outlet with the proper part number, and came from Next Gen Parts Place in a ziploc bag with the same thing sharpied on the bag. This is also the second "c5 corvette center console outlet" I've purchased, so I think the issue is on my end.

GM changed the center console outlet around the 2000 model year. Your 1st picture is the early style connector. The 2nd picture shows the later style connector.

Aha, mystery solved. Looks like my plug is also just a generic 12v outlet plug, all of the "universal 12v outlets" I'm looking at online have that same plug. Thanks everyone!
