Old Style Car Phone in my '98
When I bought my '98 in July 2022 it had one of those old school phones in the console box.I was wondering if this was some type of option , maybe dealer. Does anyone else have one? One side of me says keep it, the other says rip it out...

Melting Slicks
Reminds me, back in 1976, long before cell phones when cb's were popular, I bought a CB that looked like a real phone, handset and everything mounted to my console. Fast forward and now we talk on our phones thru hearing aids and radios................Boy I miss those days.

Unless there was some secret Gm code, this was not an option that I remember . Possibly a dealer installed option, but more likely the previous owner had it installed after the fact, which was quite common (as was replacing the head unit, etc).

I will never forget the proud day I had my Motorola car phone installed into my 1992 25th anniversary Z28, by Cellular One. That sweet little pig tail antenna on the back glass that indicated my financial status to the world, I mean they didn't know that I couldn't afford to actually place calls with the dang phone! LOL I think that was around 1993 or 1994 and I used that phone until the StarTac 6000 was released I think in 1996 or 1997.

It was mounted to the passenger side center console tunnel and had its own built-in speaker. This was right before the Blackberrys took over the market. What I remember most is that I had to have a new number assigned multiple times after being "cloned". That sweet little pig-tail "tech warrior" antenna was a target for all the cell-phone cloners who would aim their pirating devices to my car and other cars with these antennas, mostly from highway overpasses. Technology finally caught up and stopped that madness.
It was definitely not a factory option for the C5 generation.

It was not a factory option - at least not that I can recall.
