Default New 2023 from KnightDriveTV - MAX-DIN HVAC compatible 10.8" Master Control Screen!

First prototype...exterior is handbuilt and about 75% shaped. All hvac works for the electronic dual **** systems. The TRIPLE **** vaccum stuff is gonna be rough but...I'm pushing ahead trying to create a servo motor setup that's operated by the same hvac control screen. The side buttons have manual controls for volume and ac function work but this is a prototype only...handbuilt.
The goal is NO cutting and fully reversible. I'm going to try to tuck it and smooth it a bit further. Lots of add ons are being tested etc. This is just v1 alpha tester. This runs on an 8 core qualcomm processor with the most advanced version of android 11. This will have ongoing support...real support, by me and keep things good to go.

Just a preview. Many people want to cry about it...move on please. This isn't a universal piece adapted, it's not a tablet, its nothing like that 400.00 piece of junk on amazon with android 7 that takes 4 minutes to boot up etc. This is the newest and best I can build.

I have a founding member program for my bezels (that go with the headlights) and those founding members will have first buy opportunity at discounted prices. That program will be made clear on the yt channel and in the fb group ahead.

Specs are:
4x45w, carplay and android auto works wireless, wifi/btooth, 4g compatible, dual cameras are standard, preamps (fr, fl, rr, rl, sub), plug and play, NO CUTTING/FULLY REVERSIBLE.

I am sorry I've owned two different cars with majority touchscreen controls and hated it in both. Glad the trend is dying and auto industry is moving away from this madness.

Looks like a cool project, tho.

I'm intrigued. Sorry for the "20 questions" but you'd have to expect this:

What's the ballpark price?
Aside from mounting tweks...is the programming/screen layout/functionality of the screen finalized?
Can you post a video using the screen from powerup/using radio/HVAC functionality.
If this is not a "tablet", what is it?
BlueTooth compatible? Works with iPhones?
Do you keep cupholder functionality?

Hey Damian,

super excited about this bad boy. for the 4*45 preamp specs, is there anything in the documentation that states their THD? (Total harmonic dissonance)?

Holy crap! I would be VERY interested in that!! I greatly look forward to seeing the final product. I would also love more pics of the prototype. I assume it's possible to add custom backgrounds. What price range are you looking at? I don't really do a lot on YT, so please keep us updated on your progress here on the forum. Also, how long do you think it will be before you have a commercial version of this ready to sell?

I know this is designed around the stock configuration. Will there be any problem for people who have already cut the bracket out for double din conversions?

This looks like a really well thought out and put together unit. Won't be for everyone but I'm pleased to see people going the extra mile to modernise the C5.

Videos to come, many details still being worked out...it's early on this but I'm moving fast. Btooth/WIFI/4g compatible, works with Iphones (carplay) and Android (android auto), and operates with an Android 11 os underneath. It's not a tablet, it's an entirely custom built unit. Cupholder didn't work before this came along and it won't work after...but yes...something will sit in it and it opens still. As you can see in the photo, it's not a tablet by any means...it's a 100% custom unit specifically for C5 and no other car.

It's probably the biggest eyesore in the interior once you have done all the other interior upgrades. Should be fairly simply as the faceplate plastic detaches from the rest of the unit. The LCD screen on it is fine, it's the plastic around it that's ugly. I think this would sell like hotcakes, especially if it's at a reasonable price given that it would be a very feasible/low cost 3D printed plastic faceplate/button/***** with graphics on them.

Yes, we now have all the output data and logic created to entirely operate the hvac system. Could I make a replacement unit...absolutely...should I...I'm not sure.

This unit mounts entirely to the OEM console, so whatever hacking is done behind there doesn't impact mounting.

I agree 100%...some people are losing their minds over the screen or whatever...but, the reality is, C5's are AWESOME cars right in that zone of capability, lightness and low tech. Developing parts for this car, is a no-brainer to me. Not everyone has to buy it of course and yes, since I have data captured and engineering done to make this, I could very well just make an hvac unit module replacement.

To everyone reading, this is NOT done by any means. There are a LOT of compromises here.

#1 There are two hvac operating systems and one uses crazy vacuum lines and things...this is VERY challenging to make work with a screen. The triple **** guys, if I can make it work, have a game changer option they never saw coming.
#2 The design and how it interfaces with the console is VERY tricky. First, the console has those separations betwen the radio and hvac, then the ash tray. The next problem is many have cut up/hacked up for double din. The final issue is, I don't want to continue hacking up these cars for the sake of long term preservation. I need it to mount in a way that everyone can handle, keep mold/injection costs low due to the massive costs associated with electronics on this level, and I want it reversible.
#3 The idea that screens are ending...I mean...this is crazy talk...lol. I think folks have learned that keep a simple touch/feel interface for major functions is convenient, but the massive capabilty of a screen this size is a HUGE advantage. This is why OEM's are developing so many screens and interfaces. It's only natural for the aftermarket to try and let everyone get in on the fun.

Well done on the C6 version so far. First thing I noticed was not having a C6 dash image but you are clearly on top of things. Fit and finish of the C6 was nice. I like how you kept the contours of the OEM dash. Fitment looks tight too.

I'll be following for the C5 development and progress.

It would be slick if there are options for custom boot-up screens etc. "Corvette" or the C5/C6 logo. Minor details at this point.

How fancy can you make a simple faceplate? Layout of all the buttons will be the same since you are not changing the guts, just the buttons might be a different shape/style.

If anything it's the blue/green LCD screen and the font that is "dated".
