Because they crack at the flange. So when you have a hot valve and cold air getting sucked in right at the exhaust valve is can cause that. I am not against saving money but there are smart ways to do it and then not smart ways. You can also always look at the Hooker Blackheart headers which are shorty's but while you do give up some power they are quality and they are legal.
