Default Wiper hose barb snapped off...

First time caller.. long time lister ...

2004 C5... the little barb that is on the "dome" that the hose from the passenger wiper attaches to has died. The hose is fine as is the rest of the hose assembly under the cowl.

Any suggestions? Has anyone tapped in a new barb? Wondering if there is another solution - 3d print maybe...

Too dull a many time asked question with no answer other than "buy a used one"?

No workarounds?

Thanks... however was looking for a work around. For instance - the id of the hose is 1/8 ... that's a standard barb size - has anyone removed the elbow and run hose right to the wiper? Has anyone successfully repaired the elbow? Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the elbow?

Thanks!

I had this happen about 10 months ago. As you've probably noted the passenger side one gets baked in the sun and becomes brittle over time, likely to snap off when removing it from the wiper cowl.

My solution was to put the "fresh" one from the driver side on the passenger side location, and then I added a MettleAir # 99HB-NP-2-SB barbed fitting on the driver side. So far so good! Shipping is weirdly expensive, though... I bought 2 and have a spare. Also looks like Amazon has it, but for qty 1 the cost is pretty high; if you choose the qty 10 option shipping is free. Perhaps you could buy 10, and then sell the extras here.

I'm also interested in this solution. My sprayer hasn't worked since I bought the car and sometimes that's kind of annoying for a FL daily driver.

Thank you! I like your thinking! Local kid here 3d prints I'll see what he can come up with he said something like $10 each which I'd be happy to pay if it worked and looked similar to stock. If that's a bust your plan seems solid!

I do a lot of 3D printing, and sorry to say I'm not optimistic that this part is a good candidate for that. For your sake I hope it works out!

Yeah I think it would be pretty difficult to 3D print because of how tiny it is.

I've seen the kid's prints. High chance of success. Depends on the 3d model and the quality/calibration of the printer.

We have them new! We received 20 a few months back to approve the part and it was a perfect match. We advertised those and they sold right away. We are awaiting a huge order to arrive in the coming weeks. I just sent them an email to get a better timeline. Thanks... good news... I'm going to try the 3d printed alternative first - 10 bucks to support a local kid. Will report back!

$35 is a lot! But if it comes to that then at least the option is available.

Here's the metal barbed fitting I mentioned as it's installed:

I ran into the same problem OP. Didn't want to pay what the used prices for them go for. I never use the sprayers anyway, but after like 10 months I gave up and replaced it after casually looking for one for all that time with a used unit from ebay. Hope your 3d printed route works out.

Yes. I fixed mine.
If the barb is snapped off clean there is still enough "meat" to cut a threads into the gumdrop and the barb and put them back together.
You gotta be good with small delicate things and have the right tools.
I was a jeweler before I went into IT.
This is the second time I've repaired windshield washers on my cars.
Still I was surprised it worked out.

I got a used one from Vettenuts.

Idiotic that two bit safety related parts are not available. Same deal with headlight adjuster bushings.

3d printing for the win! Definitely more robust than the original! GM should hire the kid!!
