C5 vs vintage sports/muscle cars
#22
The C5 will beat up on most older cars stock for stock as it should. Numbers are just numbers though,
how does the car make you feel when you look at it and how much fun do YOU have driving it aren’t defined by 0-60 in 2.8 vs 5.0 anything that breaks into the 12s is silly quick for a street car and unless it’s AWD or mid engined it’s a handful to drive.

450hp. When it was new it was the cats meow.
Even though tire sizes were very limited. The C5
with much better and bigger tires is a rocket ship.
Although ,when I stop for fuel the 66 gets alot of attention
the 2000 gets some eyes as well. Both C1 and 2 and C5
are now old cars.

I appreciate the theoretical debate, but it really is unfair. The C5 will "win" on almost any comparison. After all you are dealing with 50ish years of advanced technology.
Now, not mentioned was any Mopars. I'd take my old 440 '69 Charger or 383 '71 Roadrunner in a heart beat over my 04 Z06 CE. The cool factor is undeniable.

Melting Slicks
Funny story about the MSD box on this car. I told my painter I wanted the box blacked out. Well, he masked off the little bits and such and made it look really great. It wasn't what I asked for though. I wanted it painted over as if to hide it. Not glorify it. Anyway, I may have the only Black MSD 6AL in existence! The car ran really good with a 5 speed Keisler trans in it. 3.73s.

2022 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Having owned a “late model” ‘58 Vette and various BBC muscle cars, there was nothing that could walk a C5, stock for stock. The C5 performs better in every measurable way. That said, I love those cars and wish I still had them. They were fast, comfy, and looked wicked. A teenager could buy a nice used muscle car and mod it with very little guidance. Set up right, they could definitely do some G force and put down comparable strip times. Good times. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I also have an 81 along with my C5. That old car is a hoot to drive. Rumbly, and crude but feels faster then it is. Done some stuff to it so its decently fast and really does get the attention. Kinda like those Cobra kit cars - fun to drive in a limited capacity. I inherited a 65 mustang GT and that thing with no power brakes or steering was just awful to drive. It got the attention at car shows, but man, once you got behind the wheel the fun went away. My 81 was faster as my C5 is faster then my 81. Time marches on as they say, but those old muscle cars are cool to look at!

Drifting
I've attended MANY pure stock drags at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex.
A "stock" (wink wink but... they are fairly close to stock) 396 SS runs about a 13 flat. A non-LS6 454 SS runs high 12s. The LS6 SS Chevelle is strong and runs mid-high 12s.
Keep in mind that is in the fall, very well prepped track, and polyglass tires that are for some strange reason very sticky
IMO a similarly "stock" C5 Z06 (like mine) on the same track and at the same time and also having strangely sticky tires would run a low to mid 12. If caught out on the street.. Z06 (if launched adequately) would walk away from a stock / near stock (with stock tire) BB Chevelle.
btw, the L88 vette and the 69 copo Camaro were simply awesome to watch.

My 68 Chevelle with 383, automatic and 373 gears runs mid 12 in the quarter mile with ET streets. My 03 Z06 with a few mods is quicker, handles and brakes better. But, the Chevelle is more fun to drive, gets loads of attention and sounds better (a cam change would make the Z06 equal there). All matter of preference.
