6/20/23 Mid-Engine updates
Finished piloting rear cab-mount uprights and aft doublers.
Begun fabricating bulkhead plates. These are 2024T3-063”
Shifter should fall just forward of that forward bulkhead. Waiting on it to arrive to confirm.

I am eager to see my car come off the rack, true. But I am REALLY excited to see this girl come to life.

It's hard to tell from the photos; is the pedal box going to be slightly offset to the center from the seat?
Using the C5 as the basis of the build was a neat idea, and the execution is fantastic.

Awesome project!! You have a great skill set. Mechanically, probably a few guys here have the ability to undertake this. But something I think most people don't count as a skill is patience. I do believe I could-probably-do something like this. Mechanically. Maybe. But I'd never have the patience. No way. So, I'm admitting I could never do this. Again, a great project. Since you obviously have the skill set, I'm going to make a suggestion about something whose time may have come again. Around 20 years ago, G.M. commissioned, IIRC, Gear Vendors Overdrive, to produce an 8 speed C5 Corvette. Basically a 4L60E with standard and OD in first 3 gears, and double OD in 4th. I can't provide a link, but I can tell you it was in either Corvette Fever magazine, or in Vette magazine. It was almost complete when GM pulled the plug. One car was built, pretty much finished. I believe the owner of Gear Vendors (at that time) kept the car. They even had the "8 speed" molded emblem complete to mount on the lower front fenders. An 8 speed C5, with mid/rear engine mount would slingshot the C5 platform into the modern era of drivetrains, for sure. Thought I'd bring this up because most C5 owners either never knew about it, or don't remember it. Congrats on one Hell of an undertaking. When you get this completed, if you'd manufacture a kit form, you would be a pretty rich fellow, in my opinion....

Thanks for all the support everyone, it truly means a lot. I just lost my 18-year old son in a tragic swimming accident so right now this is hard to deal with. My son Max wanted the project painted black to hide all the details that we haven’t shown on the forums yet including active-aero among other things. We just did a seat/angle measurement just a few weeks ago with him because we were both about the same size/build, now I don’t have him or any idea how to move forward besides just grinding on. I will finish it in his honor now, that’s a given..
yes the pedal-box is centered quite close to centerline of the chassis so I will move the panel over a touch to keep alignment a little better. I have a C8 that our Gauge for this project that Max loved and wanted me to Mod too especially now the Global computer has been cracked for tuning. I my just work on it while I tinker with the mid engine project. My family and I need everyone’s thoughts and prayers to get us through this.

Oh, man. I'm so sorry for your loss!! No greater loss on earth. This world can be so terrible, and life so unfair. 2 years ago, I lost my 46 year old daughter-in-law to cancer. No matter what they did, it kept getting worse, and spread everywhere. She was an RN. Besides my son, she left a 6 year old son, and 8 year old daughter. He's doing his best, but nobody replaces a "mom." I don't know what else to say, except that you're not alone. Godspeed for your son. No matter what we say, words cant express the feelings you have......

You are a man of great emotional strength and commitment. My deepest sympathy to you, your wife and extended family. We experienced a small and sad loss last week as well, and my heart pangs hearing this news of Max.
Max seems to have good taste in black for a track car. Definitely a theme you can work from either as a full canvas or a base for a design. I can easily see the project car with a stamped memorial brass plate mounted prominently either in the bay or on the dash to honor him and his love for the build with his dad.
Though at a distance, if there is anything I can volunteer to the build when you get into it let me know. We are a community. We will help our own.
