Default Raced a C8 Today

Raced a C8 Corvette at the dragstrip today and for the first 5 feet I had him! Lol. He quickly jumped ahead and was gone!

Basically stock C5 M6, I have cold air intake and Borla ATAK and x-pipe and I am sure he was stock. Fun comparison of old and new, I was high 13s and he was high 11s. I was just glad not to be matched up to woman driving a C4 faster than me! Lol

Pretty sure Shirly Muldowney would take offense at that, and quite possibly out race most of us if she was in a Prius...

That’s not a fair matchup, A C8 has about 500 HP.

Just had to end it with a bit of sexism, eh?

Go to a real track if you want to have actual fun with your car.

Yes in deed. I was recognizing the fact that I could be out driven. What is funny to me is that I am accused of being sexist but nobody has taken offense to the C4 portion of the comment. I actually have much love for the C4.

The young lady that sung the national anthem was running high 11s in the highschool street legal class. Lots of great female drivers. But wait it is sexist to say that I am sure!

P.S. this was a local corvette club show event where we went to the drag races .... There was a woman racing a C6 as well and she was also the mechanic for the ZR1 driver....

I was all fun, there was a C6 ZR1 running 11s that would have been fun to run up against as well

I don't mind the look but then again I like the C7, but I get where you are coming from. I like older cars because you are more involved in the driving experience and can work on them.

Yeah, a new C8 would spank most of our C5s. I think even my C5s 620 hp vs. the C8's 490 hp, I would still lose as the C8 can really put the hp down were as I would be spinning the tires.

The C8s are really quick. The C5 is a great car, but the advancements over the ensuing three generations have been impressive.

You got that right, it was just fun to race him, all good fun at a real track not at the street.

Yes it really got up and went, over 20 years of technology makes a difference.

Don't forget Corvettes are designed as sports cars, not drag racers.

Very true, same as with my Porsche 944 Turbo, vettes transaxel more robust at least. But it is hard not to want to drag race.

That's really cool.

My daughter's boyfriend keeps challenging me to race his Ford Fusion Sport against my stock 2000 Convertible (M6), but I would rather do an Auto Cross where I could teach that young whippersnapper a thing or two!

I so badly whish there was a great road race track near by to get out and let it loose and face off against newer cars in the environment that my cars were intended, so I know what you mean.

My step son and I go to a local cars, coffee and chrome gathering every Saturday morning where you will see from Ferrari's to motorized uni-cycles, anything on wheels kind of group. From Tuners to Rat Rods and everything in between. I really get a kick out of seeing them all and seeing the young men who are building cars with very little money and a whole lot of desire. What is really impressive to me is the Subaru closed deck engines, what an advantage that is in giving those guys potential for crazy horsepower. When you can run 60 PSI of boost and put down over 1,000 horsepower in a little car, just seems like Crazy Talk! So with running across the younger generation in their Subaru's and Honda's , etc.. and getting to know them and seeing their dyno sheets, I sure as heck don't want to race them. I have made it point of telling them if we have to face each other take it easy on the old man and don't embarrass me too badly!

With that said, would I want their car over mine? Nope! I got the C5 for a few reasons, it was prepped and ready to go for a nasty NA build where I can have a cool street rod of sorts with some modern comforts and great handling. I can still work on this era car. I like the looks! and it fits into a niche that I have never had before. My wife hounds me to sell it and the Porsche (yes she is crazy) and get a C7 in the color configuration she wants and an automatic.... Now I would like a C7 and plan to get one someday, I want to build and take the C5 to a certain place and keep and enjoy it, still a drivers car, you can feel the road and still feels a bit dangerous at times and should be dangerous when I am done in an animalistic driving experience kind of way.

Point being, the C8 is awesome, but I can admire it and still drive my C5 and really enjoy it and not be scheming to sell it and figure out a way to have something else, I am perfectly happy working on it and driving it and having a good time in the experience. I have basic driving experience items pretty dialed in (clutch and shifter....) and have widdled away from the list of things not perfect. A few more annoyances to take care of and then it is ready to just enjoy and to a point where I will dump all the go fast parts in at which point it really will just be ready to drive and enjoy and leave along. When I get a C7 for example, I still plan on keeping the C5, or my 1997 C5 might go to my step son who was born in 1997 that I got into cars (he drives a Mustang, so I really messed up and am a bad parent, where did I go wrong....) as that has a certain poetry to it... So I raced a C8 and lost, but had a great time and enjoyed the experience and happy with my C5.
