Default Night time driving visibility with your C5

Just curious to see what you've done with your headlights setup to improve your night time driving visibility.

If I drove at night a lot, I would look into LED or HID, but I just don't drive the Vette at night much at all. I did install brighter bulbs, however.

I drive at night often. Switch to better bulbs and still sucks. Only dislike about the car.

Same here.

Before I retired, my work day started at 6AM, so in the early spring and late fall, I was leaving for work when it was still dark. So at those times, I needed to use the headlights, and appreciated the added brightness provided by brighter bulbs (Sylvania Silverstars, I think they were called). However, I'm now retired, and for the most part, my driving in now primarily in the daytime, except for Saturdays, when my wife and I go out for dinner, and it might be a little dark, when we're on our way home. Winter, of course, is another story, but I'm in my Jeep, and not the Corvette.

HID lights with a low rise set-up (Sun Guns). Expensive but worth it in the long run

I know my 02's headlights are not upgraded but it's got some awesome PIAA driving lights on it. With them, don't really need headlights.
My two 99's I believe are stock but the previous owners could have upgraded them. I don't think the C5's headlights are too bad compared to my 1997 Expedition.

In 6+ years, I have not driven at night. But just in case I have to, In addition to getting brighter bulbs for the low/high beam headlights, replaced the fog lights with brighter bulbs and added the Hi-4 Harness allowing brights and low beams to be on the same time.

With the stock setup, it wasn't much better than a couple of flashlights taped to the hood. Replaced the bulbs with I think H11 and 12s (did the tab mod) and that was like putting a couple extra flashlights on the hood. Finally went with projectors from JWM. It was like the difference between night and day. Very happy with results.

When I had my C5s I really did not do a lot of nighttime driving, but when I did, I would agree that the headlights were not the best. I never changed things out though. I just adjusted my driving to compensate for the less than optimal lighting.

For those wanting an upgrade without going all the way to HID or LED, here is what I installed...

Because of some of our trips being several hundred miles it is not uncommon to drive after dark. I agree with others, the original headlights leave much to be desired. I am not sure what was different about the factory system, but it seemed not as good as many other cars including our C4s. Tried the different bulb upgrades with some improvement but still not what I was looking for. Swapped to the Radioflyer Innovations (now Sharplight Innovations), bi-Xenon, ACA set up about four years ago and there was a night and day difference (sorry, had to use the pun ).
Also it seemed to me the factory set up was very dependent upon proper alignment. (All headlight systems need proper alignment, but the C5 seemed more dependent on this).

I did two and three.
Better bulbs really helped.
Later did HID in projectors.

HIR swap from Daniel Stern Lighting.

HIDs or LEDs in the stock housings are junk.

It's outright dangerous to drive a C5 at night... plus it is medically harmful to one's eyes... Me? Think extreme eye strain with damage.... And GM dose nothing.... How many C5 built? Over 200,000 sight less folks driving at night! Thanx Dave for dropping us in the craper.
Warning, do not drive the C5 at night.

I would bet good money that most of the people who complain have improperly aimed headlights. And I don't just mean parking up against a wall and turning the screws. I mean using a proper headlight aiming machine.
